Hart graduated from The Ohio State University with a bachelor's degree in education in 1970 and earned a master's degree in higher education administration, also from Ohio State, in 1972. He earned three letters as a 6-2, 234-pound offensive guard on the Buckeye football team and played for the Ohio State team that beat USC, 27-16, in the 1969 Rose Bowl. That squad, which posted a perfect 10-0 record, was named the 1968 national champion. Hart was also a member of the Ohio State wrestling team for the 1966 season.

Hart came to Washington after serving as the defensive line coach at Ohio State, his alma mater, from 1982 to 1987. The return to Columbus also marked the third time he served as an assistant under Earle Bruce.

Randy Hart named Notre Dame's defensive line coach

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) ? Randy Hart, defensive line coach at University of Washington for the past 21 seasons, was named defensive line coach at Notre Dame on Saturday.
"We wanted someone that was a high-energy coach that could develop our young defensive line," head coach Charlie Weis said.

Weis said at a news conference on Feb. 13 that he wanted to hire a veteran defensive line coach who could help groom Bryant Young, a former Irish standout who played 14 seasons with the San Francisco 49ers, into a defensive line coach. Young will serve as a graduate assistant next season.

The 60-year-old Hart has 39 years of coaching experience who departed the Huskies after they hired Steve Sarkisian to replace the fired Tyrone Willingham. He also has coached at Ohio State, Purdue and Iowa State. He replaces Jappy Oliver, who left Notre Dame last month.

Randy Hart was defensive line coach for the Huskies from 1988-2008, one of the longest coaching stints in UW history, earning a lasting reputation both for his energetic personality and for molding the likes of Steve Emtman, D'Marco Farr and Larry Tripplett.

Randy Hart worked for Huskies from 1988-2008.

Though he says he doesn't know much about the tradition of Notre Dame football, there is one legendary football face Huskies defensive end Daniel Te'o-Nesheim is looking forward to seeing there this weekend ? that of Randy Hart.

Hart was defensive-line coach for the Huskies from 1988 to 2008, one of the longest coaching stints in UW history, earning a lasting reputation both for his energetic personality and for molding the likes of Steve Emtman, D'Marco Farr and Larry Tripplett.

He wasn't retained in the turnover in head coaches last season, after surviving four previous transitions, but more than landed on his feet at Notre Dame.

"It's going to be weird seeing him in blue," Te'o-Nesheim said. "But that's almost purple."

Hart didn't care what color he would be wearing after being let go at UW, saying last spring he was happy to work anywhere.

That it's Notre Dame is all the better, for all the obvious reasons as well as the fact that it took Hart close to his native Ohio.

"I'm the luckiest man you know," Hart cackled through the phone last April.
