OL Kyle Trout (transfer to Cincinnati Bearcats)

Wasn't suggesting that you or Warriner or anyone else was being anything less than honest. Simply taking into account the fact that things sometimes get "lost in translation". Thanks again for sharing your up-close observations.

Nothing to gain from stretching the truth or flat out lying. This info is 100% accurate straight from the family. :)

(Well, I suppose Warriner might think differently than what he said, but I would have thought a simple "You did well, We're watching you this year" would have been better than a straight lie if that were the case... )

Thanks for the kind words

Krenzelicious - I'm sorry, I tried to edit that reply but still didn't come out right - no worries it wasn't taken poorly.

Brutus1 - As for who calls, I don't know specifics anymore. He's talked to everyone from the Lancaster eagle gazette to fox to ESPN. He doesn't even know half the people who have called. Sometimes that's the demanding part, a lot of people want to talk. He tries to talk to everyone who asks though.

Well, I promised a follow up so here goes...

Kyle and I arrived at around 6:00. We ended up getting a parking spot right by the gate to check in. While walking in we met Coach Meyer who was also just arriving. He came over to Kyle and said "Kyle Trout, the coaches and I were just talking about you. We're glad you could come up tonight. The coaches and I think very highly of you, we were seriously just talking about you"

Next was the check-in, at that point we walked Kyle up to the lounge area where the coaches and other players were. Kyle went in and we got sent to the shoe. Later the kids came out to the field. I suppose they wanted parents to see their kids coming out onto the field, who knows.

Kyle spent time with Evan Lisle who was there observing but has already committed. He talked to most of the coaches again.

I talked with a couple coaches, and we spent more some time talking to coach Fickell who is his recruiting coach. The overwhelming theme was that it didn't hurt Kyle not to have participated. I wasn't sure at first but in the end I think they were honest. I don't think even if he had blown up the camp again he would have come out with an offer. They pretty much want to watch some games and see how things go this season. Not to mention they already have a bunch of offers out nationally to tackle prospects. I don't believe that they want to increase that until tackles start committing other places.

I talked to several coaches. Interesting quote :"No it doesn't hurt Kyle not to participate, two-a-days start Monday. I'm a little surprised how many coaches let their kids participate this late in the game. Mine would never have let me this weekend."

Fickell said ideally the camp would be moved back a week or two and they would get Kyle to go to that one and not the others. They just were not sure how to keep it small now that the word is out. They really want it to continue to be almost an invite only camp even though they can't actually do invite only.

There are goods and bads of the whole night, but I don't think it lived up to all the hype for me personally. It was just another camp, only it was in the shoe at night. A lot of schools do that. The difference was they try to make it more invite only and they did have some legends helping with each group. Not every school can have Orlando Pace hang around the offensive line. lol

I think I hung on to the recruiting process and enjoyed it longer than Kyle. He just wants to play football. But honestly I'm getting tired of it as well. I'm not saying that FNL did that to me, it's just that we went to too many camps and I'm burnt out. Leaving the stadium Kyle was interviewed no less than 5 times on the way to the car. Don't get me wrong, those guys are all super nice and Kyle knows they have a job and wants to help them out. It's just becoming more like work that it is fun....I will say you guys on this site have been very gracious and nice about Kyle, it's much different than most of the other boards. I do enjoy sharing what happens to people who actually believe what you say. lol

I think Kyle enjoyed the camp a lot more than I originally thought...

It wouldn't surprise me in the least. I'm not trying to guess what his thoughts are, but I know what he might be feeling. I have been fortunate to attend 27 games in the "SHOE" over the years, and they were awesome (25-2)! I was also able to attend a football camp when Earl Bruce was coach. I imagine in some places a mostly empty stadium is just that..in the Horseshoe however..it's a stadium full of endless possibilities.

What did you do wrong during the two losses lol

Went to the restroom. Might have worn the wrong hat..I think the first loss was because of some jerk named Mike Reid, so I dislike Wisconsin. The next loss was to Illinois..the worst of the two to me..Oct 8, 1994. I still like to see Illinois beat PSU and scUM...but I hope we destroy them every year.

I would like to see Trout end up at Ohio State, mostly because he is a big lineman and in-state. Pretty interesting though (to me at least), that a prospect is not enamored with the recruiting process. Some of these guys are non-stop tweeting about their recruitment or constantly doing itnerviews and the ilk.

Ego. Some people need it fed constantly. Some have confidence in themselves and do not.

I've coached kids (lacrosse) with crazy talent who are perfectly content with letting their play on the field talk for itself... and others who feel a need to tell everyone how great they are before they pick up their stick. As you would guess, the kids who go out and play without the talk tend to be much easier to coach.

Each their own and Kyle seems to have good perspective. Good for him and best of luck wherever he should land (not in A^2 or Madison  )

Don't get me wrong, he's appreciative of what he's been given and he's very humble about everything. He does interviews with pretty much everyone who asks. But the whole process is not something he finds fun. Maybe this helps bring it into perspective for you. Most of the recruiting coaches, even ones who have not offered want him to call one or multiple times per week. If he were to call them all he would spend hours upon hours just calling to check in but he doesn't have the time. Today for instance he will go through 2-a-days from 8-2:30, then he will go home, shower and eat then go help out the junior high team his brother is on for an hour and a half then spend a couple hours with his trainer working out on his own.

Regardless of how many times he calls, some of these coaches are becoming people he likes and respects. However he knows that ultimately he's going to have to tell people he really likes that he's not going to come play for them and going to go somewhere else. That thought is not pleasant to him.

I could go on but I don't want to give anyone the idea I'm bashing a different recruit because he tweets or talks about the process. Different people have different personalities and some may thrive on the attention while others may just want to play. Others may be able to realize it's a business and put things to the side etc. All these kids are different and handle things differently. He likes the idea that he will be able to play in college as it's his dream, he just doesn't like everything that goes along with it. Does that make more sense?

I can understand the difficulty of telling someone you like/respect that you're not going to go to their school - especially for a young person who has never had to really do something like that. I don't know how I would approach. Personally, I know if it were me the last coach I talked to/visit I took would be my leader - unless I really didn't like something about the campus, and or facilities.

I wish him the best of luck and hopefully he finds the perfect fit school-wise.
