OL Jack Mewhort (All-American)

It's amazing how much one player can define a position at a school. If you are a dominant offensive lineman, you want to wear #75 at Ohio State. I wonder where that trend came from?

The article is free (as of now). Kind of surprised he will start at right tackle but at 6'6 290, he is fit for the bill. Not to mention what stuck of to me immediately in his film last year was his reach and agility, which will serve him well at tackle.

ESPN - Scouts Inc.: Matchups to watch during the practices that lead up to the UA All-America Game

Black C Jack Mewhort vs. Black DT Jacobbi McDaniel

This battle pits the nation's top-rated center against the No. 1-rated defensive tackle. Mewhort is tall for the center position, at about 6-foot-6, but he is also athletic. The Ohio State commit has good feet and loves to get physical. He will definitely get tested by McDaniel, an excellent athlete himself. McDaniel is a bit undersized for an interior lineman, but he is quick and active. McDaniel's abilities allow him to move all over the defensive line and wreak havoc, but he has shown he is most dangerous when lined up over the center. Will the bigger Mewhort be able to move quick enough to get in front of McDaniel? Will McDaniel, a Florida State commit, use his smaller stature to get under Mewhort's pads and win the leverage battle?

Among Jim Tressel's new Buckeyes are Storm Klein (32), Zach Boren (44), Jack Mewhort (74) and Adam Homan (49). Mewhort, an offensive lineman from St. John's, is already on campus.

COLUMBUS - At this time last year, most of the fuss, the focus and the recruiting fluff centered around the marquee position on the football field - quarterback. Then Ohio State went out and got the guy everyone in the country wanted - ultra athlete Terrelle Pryor.

With the recruiting class the Buckeyes announced yesterday, it appears that coach Jim Tressel was intent on marshaling a new and highly-talented palace guard to protect Pryor. Tressel collected a pride of prized linemen, including Jack Mewhort from St. John's Jesuit.

"It's exciting to be part of this program, and I feel really comfortable knowing I'll be playing up front with Terrelle at quarterback," Mewhort said here yesterday after officially making his commitment to play for the Buckeyes. "There's a lot to learn, but there's also a lot of opportunity right now."
