Last summer, Chad Lindsay was the offensive line camper of the year at the Ohio State University Football Camp.
He has impressed at Alabama and Oklahoma's camp over the last few weeks to boot. Lindsay is turning heads in college coaching circles with his size and play.
So, why is he not on chatrooms and top prospect lists across the country?
Lindsay, the 6-foot-4-inch tall, 290-pound son of former Mississippi State offensive lineman Duff Lindsay, will be a freshman at The Woodlands High School this fall.
"I love SEC football and I really enjoyed the Alabama Camp the other week," the young Lindsay said. "My mom is a big LSU fan and I grew up in Baton Rouge for a few years, so I like the Tigers also. Going to Ohio State last year was great. They have a nice program."
As an eighth grader, Lindsay's mother gave Ohio State coaches permission for her son to play with the high school linemen. He went on to be the offensive line MVP.
"Coach Jim Tressel said it best when he said you have to sell the momma," Duff Lindsay said. "He's done a pretty good job at that."
While it's early in the development of Lindsay, his father has coached him on the techniques of lineman play.
"We've built him chutes to get through to keep him low," Duff Lindsay said. "We've also been to see the top offensive linemen in the city of Houston play. We want to see what we are up against in the future."
Lindsay's future may be unlimited, but his father wants to curtail his son's development to some extent.
"He's always been the biggest kid in his class and on his teams," he said. "But I wouldn't want him to get ahead of himself and play varsity as a freshman. I think that would be dangerous for him. We want to keep him healthy and on a good pace."
With some offers coming in as early as an athlete's sophomore season, Lindsay is building exposure, highlight tapes and attending camps on a regular basis.
"Look at J.B. Shugarts at Klein," Duff Lindsay said. "He's a beast as a sophomore and has probably over 15 verbal offers. That's where we'd like Chad to be some day."
With size, genetics and work ethic all in his favor, the Chad Lindsay sweepstakes start now.
