Alex Boone, St. Edward
Senior tackle became the first offensive lineman to garner Player of the Year honors on the NE Lakes team; graded better than 90 percent for his blocking, had 48 knockdown blocks and did not give up a sack.
Boone, whose dominance at tackle has earned him a scholarship to Ohio State, garnered a share of the big-school Offensive Player of the Year Award on the 2004 Associated Press All-Ohio high school teams for Divisions I and II.
St. Edward's tower of power, the 6-8, 320-pound Boone was so impressive that he edged out some highly productive skill players in grabbing a share of the Division I award, a rarity for an offensive lineman. He graded out at better than 90 percent on his blocking assignments, did not give up a sack and totaled 47 knockdown blocks during the regular season.
"I never imagined anything like this," Boone said. "I don't know what to say. I'm so honored and so grateful. My teammates were so special, that I'll never forget the time I spent with them."
"Michigan is still annoying me," he said. Hopefully Michigan will get the clue. Maybe they don't read the papers -- I guess not.
"I'm going to have to tear myself away on Sunday when I have to leave," he said. "Every time I go down there I just want to stay. It's amazing. I can't wait to get down there."
