I've never seen a program implode like this. Since Lincoln Riley left THREE DAYS AGO, the Sooners have lost the following players and recruits:
  • WR Theo Wease (5* prospect class of 2019)
  • WR Jadon Hazelton (5* prospect class of 2019)
  • QB Spencer Rattler (5* prospect class of 2019)
  • TE Austin Stogner (4* prospect class of 2019)
  • RB Raleek Brown (5* prospect class of 2022)
  • DL Derrick Moore (4* prospect class of 2022)
  • LB Kobie McKinzie (4* prospect class of 2022)
  • OL Demetrius Hunter (4* prospect class of 2022)
  • QB Malachi Nelson (5* prospect class of 2023)
  • WR Brandon Inniss (5* prospect class of 2023)
  • ATH Makai Lemon (5* prospect class of 2023
  • RB Treyaun Webb (4* prospect class of 2023)
Sure, some of these players may decide to stay/recommit, but that's a Hell of a lot of talent leaving Norman. Riley royally screwed that program.

Just last year Venables supposedly decided he might be open to considering HC job offers...

https://www.yahoo.com/now/clemsons-...me-is-approaching-for-head-job-220644868.html

Fwiw his older son Jake is leaving the Tigers after this season. And both his ClemSons (and both daughters) were born while he was working at Oklahoma for 12 years despite being so antithetical to its culture. 8D

That article was written at the beginning of last season so after he turned down FSU the prior offseason and before he presumably turned down Tennessee a 2nd time and then signed an extension to remain the highest paid assistant in the nation.

The culture of Bob Stoops Big12 Oklahoma is NOTHING like what you can expect from OU trying to prove itself in the SEC

It's not relevant but while Jake Venables is retiring from football(due to injuries), he hasn't said if he's leaving Clemson as a student yet

Once somebody signs one of those 10-year, $75+ million contracts, where most of the money is guaranteed even if they fire you, they really don’t need to worry about what’s going to happen to them if they get fired in 3 to 5 years - they’ll have already earned $25 to $40 million, and will get another $15 to $25 million if they’re fired without it being for cause.

So if somebody’s not an idiot, they’ll have $20 million to fall back on, and who gives a crap about ‘job security’ at that point?

He wasn't gonna take a pay cut when OU wanted to demote him but he still left. Job security definitely matters. Also Brent makes more than several BCS conferrence head coaches already so it's not like he doesn't have many millions in the bank already.

Yeah, but there’s a big difference between making $2.5M a year and making $7.5M or more.
