Oklahoma Sooners (official thread)

Yeah they weren’t just bad…in 1934 Pappy Waldorf won 7 games in his only season as coach. So, you ask? They only managed to win 7 games ONE more time until Bill Snyder’s third year (1991).
I can remember watching them on tv back in the mid-80s when they would be a sacrificial lamb for OU or Texas or Corn or Colorado (McCartney years) and they looked like a high school JV team. 63-0, 56-0, 72-0…

OK....you've said this twice now as if it means something. A few years ago when transferring freely wasn't abig of a thing as it was now.....coaches sons were definitely allowed to transfer and follow their coaching father. Today, you can transfer if you don't like the weather. This isn't the thing you think it is anymore.
I'm not saying they couldn't transfer freely. I'm saying they love Clemson, and Brent wants to coach his sons so he wouldn't force them to leave a place they love

Either way I thought Buckeye fans would enjoy the situation of Bob Stoops and OU fans groveling to get back a coach they kicked to the curb

I know what your saying, but "oh gee....my kids go to Clemson" wouldn't even register for a DC getting a HC opportunity at a school like OU.

KSU was THE WORST program in Division One for decades and he turned them into not just a perennial bowl team, but a pretty regular 10 win, top-10 team to boot.

Not hyperbole. From 1935 to 1990, Kansas State had a record of 143-409-17, for a winning percentage of .266, which was the worst in FBS. Second worst was Northwestern, who had 40 more wins and a winning percentage nearly 100 points higher (.349).

Since 1991, Kansas State has a winning percentage of .641

1 of the reasons yes. Also that culture is antithetical to how Brent operates. Definitely dont see him going to OU in the SEC and dealing with those politics and backdoor dealings. Job security is also a very big reason they both have proven they will fire coaches in a heart beat.

Yeah.....Clean ol Clemson doesn't want to get into the muck of the SEC.

Just last year Venables supposedly decided he might be open to considering HC job offers...

https://www.yahoo.com/now/clemsons-...me-is-approaching-for-head-job-220644868.html

Venables, 49, has long preached loyalty to his players and avoiding distractions, and he’s wanted to live that himself. But he’s also come to the realization that those high-end opportunities are rare. “If he’s going to be a head coach, the time is approaching,” said a source with knowledge of Venables’ thinking.

Venables has loved working for Dabo, raising his family in the area and relished the entire Clemson experience. But he’s also come to realize that if he continues to not interview when people knock on his door, they’re going to eventually stop knocking.

Fwiw his older son Jake is leaving the Tigers after this season. And both his ClemSons (and both daughters) were born while he was working at Oklahoma for 12 years despite being so antithetical to its culture. 8D

Once somebody signs one of those 10-year, $75+ million contracts, where most of the money is guaranteed even if they fire you, they really don’t need to worry about what’s going to happen to them if they get fired in 3 to 5 years - they’ll have already earned $25 to $40 million, and will get another $15 to $25 million if they’re fired without it being for cause.

So if somebody’s not an idiot, they’ll have $20 million to fall back on, and who gives a crap about ‘job security’ at that point?

$20MM isn't what it used to be...especially if you are an idiot.

Have you seen the price of gas lately?
