Buckeyes volunteer with Habitat for Humanity for third consecutive year
COLUMBUS, Ohio ? Between travels around the country to compete against some of the nation?s top-ranked teams this fall season, the Ohio State women?s golf team found time to give back to the Columbus community. For the third consecutive year, the Buckeyes donated their time and services to Habitat for Humanity in an effort to help those who are less fortunate and give back to a city that offers support to their team throughout the season. Therese Hession, Ohio State head coach, feels that the team?s volunteer activities are important, for both the student-athletes and the city of Columbus.
?It is really important to have the opportunity to give back to the community,? Hession said. ?So many people in Columbus and throughout the Buckeye nation support us during the year and it is important to give back to them. It is also a good team-building activity for the student-athletes.?
The first two years that the team participated in Habitat for Humanity they worked on the construction site and were involved with the building of homes. This year, however, they volunteered at the Habitat for Humanity?s main store location helping to organize materials used in the construction of homes.
?This year we had the opportunity to work at the Habitat for Humanity company store location,? Hession said. ?We were able to help unload trucks and place materials throughout the store for people to purchase. We had a lot of fun.?
Whether working to build homes or unload supplies, the Ohio State women?s golf team realizes the power of paying it forward. Along with the tradition of success on the course and in the classroom, the tradition of volunteering is one the Buckeyes hope to keep going for years to come.
