Big Ten Champion Minnesota and Ohio State are set to compete at the 2007 NCAA Division I Women's Rowing Championships this week. The event will be held May 25-27 at Melton Hill Lake in Oak Ridge, Tenn. The University of Tennessee, Knoxville will serve as host.
For Minnesota, this year marks the first time the Golden Gophers will participate as a team at the championships, competing with all three boats -- First Varsity Eight, Second Varsity Eight and the Varsity Four. Minnesota's rowing program has excelled every year since the start of the program in 2000-01. Under head coach Wendy Davis, the Gophers won the 2007 Big Ten Championship in April in Madison, Wis. Following their conference championship, Davis was named the Big Ten Coach of the Year for the second straight season, while Jennifer Barnes was named the Big Ten Athlete of the Year. A year ago at the 2006 NCAA Championships, the Gophers were one of four teams selected with an at-large bid, racing their First Varsity Eight.
Ohio State will make its eighth-consecutive appearance in the NCAA Championships and its ninth overall with the first Buckeyes' Varsity Four boat first competing in 1997. Ohio State recently won its fifth Central Region championship in as many years, clinching the title at the Aramark Central/South Region Sprints. The Buckeyes have had success at the site of the 2007 NCAA Championships, winning all five Central Region crowns on Melton Hill Lake. Last year, Ohio State made program history by advancing to the Grand Finals of all three races while the first Varsity Four took third in its race for the highest an OSU boat has ever placed in the national championships. The Buckeyes finished fifth in the team standings.

Becky Kim and United States Synchronized Swimming Team Win Gold at 2007 Pan American Games.
COLUMBUS, Ohio- Ohio State synchronized swimmer Becky Kim and former Buckeye Kate Hooven helped the team earn a gold medal (95.667) at the Pan American Games at Maria Lenk Aquatic Park in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, July 28. The performance secured the team a spot at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.
Canada finished second with a score of 95.251, while host country Brazil scored a 90.750.

Kim redshirted her senior year in 2007 to join Hooven and the U.S. Senior and World teams in international competitions. In 2004, Hooven and Kim paired up in the duet to win the collegiate national championship before combining with Lindsay Newbill for the trio title to help the Buckeyes claim the overall national team title.
It was the first time in the history of the sport the Pan American Games served as the Olympic Qualifier. Medalists were determined by combining scores from the Team Tech and Team Free routines where the USSS placed first in both events. The U.S. has won every Pan Am Team title since the inclusion of the event in 1963, with the exceptions of 1983 and 1999 in which Canada took home the gold.

The women's soccer team places 2nd in the Duke adidas Classic !
Very Nice ladies.
Link

COLUMBUS, Ohio ? The Ohio State women?s soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to host Duke in the final game of the Duke adidas Classic in Durham, N.C., Sunday. The loss was the third-consecutive for the 29th-ranked (Soccer Buzz Magazine) Buckeyes and leaves them with a 6-3 record heading into the start of Big Ten play on Friday. Duke improves to 5-1-2 on the year.
?We tried to fight our way through this game in the 90 degree heat, but we had issues in our ability to battle for 90 minutes,? Lori Walker, Ohio State head coach, said. ?It was very difficult to bounce back after a loss in an emotionally draining game like we played against North Carolina on Friday.?
Two losses on this trip to ACC country will not be the only memories for the Buckeyes. Walker is hoping for some positives that will manifest themselves as the season goes on.
?You take a trip like this to allow the game of soccer to teach us,? Walker said. ?As long as we can gather some lessons from the weekend, it won?t be a total loss. Carolina and Duke are teams we want to see in November [in NCAA competition].
