The Ohio State Buckeyes are squaring off against Virginia Tech in Blacksburg Monday night.

The time has come. And we are finally entering officially into the 2015 Ohio State football season. In a rare Monday night kickoff to culminate the end of week one of college football, Virginia Tech is looking to repeat last year’s unlikely victory over Ohio State, which turned out to be the highlight of a 7-6 season for the Hokies in 2014. Virginia Tech finished last year in a three-way tie for the worst record in the ACC-Coastal division, and are looking to regain their home field advantage after dropping four games at home in 2014. The way the schedule currently stands, Ohio State is Virginia Tech’s toughest opponent, though the Hokies have a game at No. 16 Georgia Tech in November.

Ohio State heads to Blacksburg coming off a victory in the first-ever College Football Playoff National Championship, having beaten No. 1 Alabama and No. 2 Oregon in the four-team playoff. Urban Meyer still has not named a starting quarterback for the game, but redshirt sophomores J.T. Barrett and Cardale Jones are both coming off of outstanding 2014 seasons. With a veteran offensive line that has been much improved since a year ago, and Heisman-frontrunner Ezekiel Elliott in the backfield, the Buckeyes are aiming to repeat their offensive theatrics of January’s playoff.

Many in Buckeye Nation are looking for blood after last year’s improbable loss at home to an unranked Virginia Tech team. And the Buckeyes themselves are seeking revenge from their only blemish on last year’s otherwise perfect season. A victory -- especially by a large margin -- would help to cement Ohio State’s No. 1 ranking as it transitions to a relatively simple out of conference schedule.
