Game Thread Ohio State vs. Tulsa, 09/10/16 @ 3:30p ET, ABC/WatchESPN

Besides pain... what should we expect in this game? I thought I saw Tulsa returns a good bit of skill but had a new QB.

Dane Evans is their starter at QB and returns this year. Has started since middle half of freshman year and he's now a senior. Has kept on improving this year and last year put up a 25/8 TD/INT and over 4,300 yards. Doesn't offer anything in the form of running, he's a standard pro style sit in the pocket type so I think we'll be aggressive here (as always).

Definitely generate more pass rush. I also feel like Weber nears 200 on the ground as we kind of change gears to give Oklahoma even more to worry about. Tulsa is going to score on us though but their defense isnt stopping our offense. I can see a 56-20 type of game.

I've watched the BGSU game from start to finish three times now, and we were lucky that BGSU didn't score at least two offensive TDs due to WR drops and Knapke missing open receivers. If Evans for Tulsa is as good as advertised, our secondary had better tighten things up or this could be potentially too close for our liking.

Pressure makes them get rid of it quickly, then let your back 7 deal with their receivers in space.

OSU will give up yards and some points but as others have said, Tulsa doesn't even pretend to play defense.

5-7 yards and a cloud of rubber pellets is the strategy.

That's why I was asking... I thought BG left points out there (we did spot them 7 to be fair) and thought we didn't really play aggressively against BG on defense which they said they weren't going to do.

One thing to remember for our first game I suppose is we had no idea what they were going to do offensive or defensively. Now we get to devise a true game plan which I feel will enable us to be more aggressive on defense.

Make no mistake Tulsa scares me a tad with the offense they have. I see us winning like 59-27 due to their offense.

I think we are going to find that BGSU had too much to reload, QB and coaching, and wasn't all that was advertised. I hope Tulsa puts a bit of pressure on to give our guys some experience, just enough to still kick their ass of course.

URBAN MEYER'S BIGGEST TASK THIS WEEK? MAKING SURE OHIO STATE DOESN'T TAKE A STEP BACK AGAINST TULSA

73807_h.jpg,qitok=r0GrjsBw.pagespeed.ce.rEGXLAg9qN.jpg

One could almost sense what Urban Meyer was about to say.

Ohio State’s head coach was at the podium for his usual Monday press conference. His team set a school record with 776 yards of total offense just two days prior in the season-opener, a 77-10 obliteration of visiting Bowling Green, but you could essentially feel Meyer’s upcoming comments before he actually said them.

“I think it was good,” Meyer said when asked his assessment after reviewing the game film. “It wasn’t great.”

"Good, not great" after a 67-point win? Sounds about right.

This was surely a calculated move by Meyer, a master of motivation. What better way to bring a team that just scored 77 points back down to earth than tell a group of reporters the performance was essentially average?

Meyer knows what he’s doing, of course. He has been in this business long enough and coached all different types of teams. He certainly knows what buttons to push with certain groups.

This was no different. Meyer knows he has a young, inexperienced team — the majority of which saw its first real collegiate game action Saturday — and to build them up after what was actually a strong performance could create a problem. Never let a team get too comfortable.

“I WOULD NOT TAKE ANYTHING MORE THAN THE GUYS PLAYED PRETTY GOOD. WE’VE GOT A TOUGH ONE COMING UP THIS WEEK, A TEAM THAT BEAT SAN JOSE [STATE] SOUNDLY FROM THE GET-GO.”– URBAN MEYER

I'm with those who think Tulsa can score some points on the OSU defense.

Overall, I feel this will be an uglier game because there is going to be some sort of letdown for a team this young between the high of opening day and Oklahoma next week. I know Urban is going hard to not let that happen but they are human.

All in all, I am fine with it (although a weeks worth of hand wringing about how bad Oklahoma will tear them up if Tulsa scores on them is not going to be fun) because it will get them back where they need to be for OU.

OHIO STATE EXPECTING MUCH DIFFERENT, MORE EXPLOSIVE CHALLENGE FROM TULSA OFFENSE

73785_h.jpg,qitok=jq7suMEI.pagespeed.ce.MZn9y1UwR-.jpg

Urban Meyer felt good about his team's chances to beat Bowling Green in its season opener. He didn't, however, expect the game to be a 67-point thrashing of the program that gave him his first ever head coaching job.

"If you go back, and sometimes I hate when I see that score, where that's not what our intent was," Meyer said after Ohio State destroyed the Falcons 77-10.

A score like that isn't the norm in college football and Meyer knows it is unwise to assume it will happen each week. Bowling Green lost its quarterback, two best wide receivers, top running back and best offensive lineman from a team that won the MAC a year ago. Understandably, its offense is going to go through some growing pains. But that isn't the case with Ohio State's Week 2 opponent, Tulsa. And Meyer knows it.

"We've got a tough one coming up this week, a team that beat San Jose soundly from the get-go," Meyer said, noting the Golden Hurricane's 45-10 victory. "And very talented receivers, two NFL prospects at wide receiver, a returning veteran at quarterback."

Tulsa ran for more than 300 yards against the Spartans on Saturday. San Jose State isn't a world beater — it lost seven games last season and is consistently a mid-level program. But that rushing total means something to Meyer and the Buckeyes, especially because they know how much Tulsa likes to throw the ball with an experienced quarterback named Dane Evans calling the shots in former Baylor offensive coordinator Philip Montgomery's offense.

"When you look at Baylor and then Tulsa, they're very balanced, more balanced than people think," Meyer said. "And so I think it's somewhat similar. But there are different fundamental differences to it."

I'm hanging around a 50-20 type of game. First glance I was ready to pound the spread, second glance at Tulsa's senior QB has me at least hesitant.

It won't be (near) perfection like last week, but my heart says it's still a 30+ point win.

I wouldn't touch the spread, but definitely take the over and not think twice about it.
