Ohio State Vs. Tsun Programs... Or The Lack Thereof

Head Coach
My father and I went to The Game today and, of course, had a great, great time. The only disappointment was that the programs were sold-out at least 1 1/2 hours before The Game. We were told by an employee working at the gate that the reason for having no more programs was that they sold them by the BOX (!!!) to many "fans" earlier that day. This statement was validated by a handful of fans we asked.

If this is actually the case, it really pisses me off. There is virtually only one reason why someone buys them by the box: reselling for profit, probably on Ebay. This is obvious. Unsurprisingly, there are already programs listed on Ebay. In fact, I saw in one auction listing a picture of a box with a label for The Game's programs.

I've never encountered this before. I'd understand selling by the box if there would be extras, but... c'mon... extras to an OSU/Tsun game? Now we have to spend more than twice the cover price, not including shipping costs. The money is not the issue, however. The issue is that those who sold programs today, as well as those who manage them, cared very little for the fans.

I was looking for programs a little after 12. The last two I saw sold at 12:15, when I was third in line.

They never brought any more out.

I ended up buying an extra program from someone for above face value.

that's pathetic. no more programs by 12:15?!?!? just how many boxes were sold to "fans" by that time? this is certainly an issue that needs addressing. it's deplorable that numerous fans--real fans--did not have the chance to buy programs.

my father said that an usher he asked about this made a comment that he was "saving" some. my father said that the usher was very coy. the usher also stated that it's "not illegal," which is a rather weird statement if you're holding only a couple. when my father offered to buy a program for well over face, the guys laughed at him.

i'm not saying. i'm just saying.

Please do not buy a program off of ebay, it will only encourage folks to pull this same crap next time.
the folks who pulled this crap are those who allowed it to happen. no one should have been able to buy programs by the box. it is obvious why someone would buy programs in bulk. of course, had they been sold in piecemeal, there would have been the same guys returning repeatedly to buy more programs. what solves the issues, or at least addresses it, is holding an amount for sale in the shoe only. fans in and out of the shoe each have the right to buy a program by a reasonable time before the game. fans who have tickets should be able to buy programs at least up until the start of the game.

Let us not panic. I think HAYN is spot on, a reprint will happen. Though we likely will have to pay a premium for them - covering postage and handling mostly. Here is how you do that.
The 2006 Official Gameday Magazine is a publication of The Ohio State Athletics Communications Office. Additional copies, if available, may be purchased after game dates for $10 per program by sending a check made payable to The Ohio State University to: Football Program Sales, Official Team Shop, The Jerome Schottenstein Center, 555 Borror Dr., Columbus, OH 43210, 614-292-2073.
Certainly, though I disagree entirely with program vendors who allow the programs to be sold by the box, that is a practice that should be stopped. As also should indulging the eBay vultures (for that is what they are) who want to gouge fans that either missed a piece of history in their hands. Spread the word to those that don't know that there is a ready means to buy one at rates well below those being demanded on an auction site.

Note - that is $10, not $20, and certainly not any $50 per program.
