The Buckeyes open up Big Ten play against a decimated Rutgers squad.
Following a decisive win over Oklahoma, the Ohio State Buckeyes find themselves ranked No. 2 nationally as they come out of their bye week and prepare to take on the Rutgers Scarlet Knights in Columbus. By all measures, it should be a bloodbath, as Ohio State is favored by 38, has had a week of rest and is playing in its homecoming game in Columbus. Rutgers, meanwhile, lost Janarion Grant, its best offensive weapon, to injury against Iowa. And though Chris Ash will surely turn the program around eventually, he is still a first-year head coach on a team that has not managed to find any sort of traction since it joined the Big Ten in 2014.
Rutgers sits at 2-2 on the season, with losses to now-No. 10 Washington and, last week, a seven-point loss to Iowa at home. Even so, Chris Ash should not be forgotten. He did train under Meyer at Ohio State, and will bring that knowledge to bear in the Horseshoe.
As a result, it should be a relatively easy introduction to Big Ten Play for Urban Meyer’s young group. With a week to work the kinks out from the first three games--in which the Buckeyes still outscored opponents 170-37--the high-powered offense should hum even smoother, and the suffocating defense close any remaining gaps.
Behind a powerful rushing attack anchored by quarterback J.T. Barrett, running back Mike Weber and H-back Curtis Samuel, the Ohio State offense has managed to open up a strong passing game, as exemplified by wideout Noah Brown’s four touchdown receptions versus Oklahoma. And the defense--especially the secondary--hasn’t skipped a beat since last season, replacing all but three starters and performing at the highest level after several starters left early games with injuries.

Where is GameDay this weekend?
In a week featuring three top-ten matchups, College GameDay is heading to South Carolina for the the only top-five game between No. 5 Clemson and No. 3 Louisville. GameDay was at the Louisville-Florida State game two weeks ago, when the Cardinals dismantled the Seminoles at home, and Louisville sits as a two-point favorite over the Tigers. This week will mark the fifth occasion that GameDay has been hosted at Clemson.
What’s the rest of the Big Ten up to today?
In the conference’s own top-ten matchup, No. 4 Michigan hosts No. 8 Wisconsin at 3:30 on ABC. Iowa plays Northwestern at noon on ESPNU, followed by Illinois at No. 15 Nebraska on ESPN2 at 3:30. Purdue faces Maryland, and Minnesota takes on Penn State, both at 3:30 on BTN. Indiana hosts No. 17 Michigan State in the conference’s only night game at 8 p.m. on BTN.
