I don't think you're counting offensive boards in the Reb stat. (When I say you, I mean cnnsi) According to yahoo, Ohio State had 26 offensive rebounds. Which, according to Yahoo, would be 74 boards... They said on the radio Ohio State had 60 boards.

Your guess is good as mine.

Was at the game. Sully took 3 charges and looked good doing so. He really came alive in the second half and if teams decide to hack on him, he'll kill them at the line 7-8. Craft looked good delivering the ball and showed a nice step to the bucket. Thomas was really into it for a while, and was unstoppable during that period of time. Dallas was a straight up stud out there. Diebs and Lightly did what you'd expect, coaches on the floor.

All in all, an impressive performance ... and the scary part is, they looked a tad out of sync.

Refs could have swallowed their whistles, if you ask me.

This looks like a pretty good team to me.

Unfortunately, I haven't seen our boys yet but I'm really looking forward to Tuesday night at Gainesville on ESPN. The Gators will be a better measuring stick to just how good this team is at this point.

Since I couldn't get out to the exhibition, I couldn't do my annual observations of the new team. I got out to this one though, so here it goes:
First impression: the freshmen don't miss a beat with the upperclassmen. Not. A. Beat. Second impression: I think we got more offensive rebounds in this one game than we did in our first 3-4 games last season. Third impression: we've gotta get more disciplined on the defensive end.

This team is night-and-day different from the team we had last year. Much more athletic team. Quite a bit more running, though not much in the way on fast break points. MUCH more of a presence down low in the paint. Physical on both ends: every rebound and loose ball is fought over. No superstar, but a team with talent that goes deep on the bench. This team is as billed. They are a joy to watch.

Now the team we were up against tonight might as well have been The Lollipop Guild. I'm 5'8", and I'm pretty sure I was as tall as or taller than 2-3 of their players (the top of one's head was up to Sullinger's elbow, no kidding. Block O chanted "Past Your Bedtime!" *clap*clap*clapclapclap* when he was at the line shooting FT's), so we were gonna rebound like monsters this game. I wasn't prepared for the ball handling I saw tonight though. NC A&T played a pretty decent press the ENTIRE game and we didn't turn it over ONCE against their press until there were 40 seconds left in the game. Don't need many PGs when you have so many guys that can handle the ball as well as we do.

In short, if you haven't bought tickets yet to see these guys play, get your ass to a game. You will go home thoroughly entertained.

David Lighty -- The leader of this team. Looks so solid on both ends. I noticed he came down with quite a few rebounds tonight, so hopefully that continues for him. Will be playing against the other team's best player on offense pretty much every night. Really looked like he was having fun out there.

William Buford -- Renaissance man. Does a little bit of everything. It looks like it's not in the cards for him to take over the 25-8-7 stats that Turner had (and what quite a few of us were expecting on here, including Will), but he seems like he's everywhere on the court, contributing. Handled the ball pretty well tonight and had some GREAT passes... one in particular was a cross court pass to a wide open Diebs for 3. Really looks like he's taking a leadership role on this team this year, which was a must for him. Tonight wasn't his night, but he's going to have a starring role in a great number of games this year.

Jon Diebler -- Didn't notice him much tonight on either end of the floor unless he was getting open for a 3 or shooting a 3. An off-night for him. I do, however, think his role might be the most affected by the new freshmen coming in. We're going to try to get the ball down low a LOT more this year instead of looking for pick-and-pop shots, though this gives Diebler a chance to run off-the-ball a lot more (which is a great strength of his), so Diebs will get his. A consummate leader out there.

Jared Sullinger -- EXACTLY what this team needed. Jared is a rebound machine that isn't afraid to mix it up down low, has an arsenal of moves on O, and has surprisingly mobility for his size. Drove it a couple of times on guys that were much smaller than him and looked great doing it. Doesn't look like he's going to block many shots this year though. NC A&T were bring a 2nd man to guard him just as he turns towards the basket when posting up, which led to steals on two separate occasions, but he'll have to work on that. He was posting guys up a little further out from the basket than he should, but he has the talent and athleticism to do it. Has really good form on his free throws and should LIVE on the line with the way he draws contact. The other team is going to have a hell of a time guarding Sully. He was unblockable in the 2nd half... I counted 16 points for him in that stanza. He's got a real talent for knowing exactly where that ball is going to be when it comes off that rim. Got a wake-up call tonight about guarding folks with both of his hands tonight from the refs, but I think he got the memo. Sky's the limit for Jared. Looks every bit of one-and-done on the talent scale.

Dallas Lauderdale -- Had a heck of a night tonight. 8 blocks, pretty sure he had like 10 offensive rebounds... he was a game changer. Defensive MVP tonight. Looks like he's dropped a little weight! He was moving really well up and down the floor. His experience down low makes him and Sullinger a pretty amazing tag team when they're both in the game. He's going to live on rebounds, blocks, and tip-ins this year. Big D looks like he's progressing really well. Just hope he doesn't have to go to the line much this year =)

Aaron Craft -- Kid plays like a Junior out there. He is sharp. A real floor general. Looks like Mike Conley in mid-season form already, except the kid can really play defense. Fouled out of the game tonight, but love the way he hustles on both ends of the court. Will be guarding the other team's PG every game because of his quickness and instincts out there. Played their press like a fiddle... a couple of times he made a quick turn-around move with the ball right down the line, breaking the press in one simple motion. Don't quote me, but I'm pretty sure he didn't turn the ball over once tonight and had a TON of assists. Didn't take many shots outside the paint, but he's really dangerous driving the lane where he can dish or take it to the rim. Had one outstanding play where he drove, ducked between two defenders, and lofted a shot falling to his left that he banks in. You can tell the guys really trust him. Whenever he was in the game, the offense was churning full-tilt. Really confident kid who's only going to get more confident from here on out (you don't drive like he does in your first real home game as a frosh unless you are super confident). He's going to be a star and a leader on this team next year... mark it down.

DeShaun Thomas -- Couldn't miss a shot tonight. Looks right at home in the paint. If Sully, Big D, Buford, or D-Light didn't get the rebound, DeShaun was all over it. Needs to work on his defense (which is expected as a frosh early on), but he is a scorer in every sense of the word. Tip-ins, dunks, lay-ups, jump shots, threes, he's got it. While Sully or Dallas were getting the attention from the other team down low, DeShaun was just eating them up. Offensive MVP tonight. He's going to be really dangerous come league play as he continues to learn more and more.

Jordan Sibert -- Might have been me, but he looked a little nervous/tense out there tonight. The shots weren't falling from the floor for him. Looked good handling the ball at the end of the game though and has a nice free throw motion. Looks like he's gonna be the 8th-9th man on this ball club and I'd like to see more of him out there.

Lenzelle Smith Jr. -- REALLY glad to see him out there tonight! In the very few minutes that he had out there, he looked really natural with the ball in his hands... might be our 2nd PG out there once he gets 100% healthy. Plays really smooth and has nice handles. I can see how he was getting comparisons to Evan Turner coming out of HS. Can't wait to see him get more minutes.

JD Weatherspoon -- Pleasantly surprised with JD! I was expecting a project with no hope for minutes this year, but the staff sees otherwise. Will play the role of spark plug (vacated by Madsen) with his athletic play. Missed the mark with a dunk that would have brought the house down and had another cheeky shot that rolled in for him. He's gonna be a fun one to watch progress as the game starts slowing down for him.

Nicola Kecman -- Didn't play tonight. Interested to see what his role is going to be on the team. Is he only going to play in mop-up duty? Or if we go up against a team with some height (ala Georgetown) and we get into foul trouble? I think he could be a real asset to the team, as judged by some of his play in mop up duty in the past, but I'm not sure his game flows well with the tempo this new team seems to have.

Block O -- Looked lost in their new seats. Like seeing the students actually showing up for a non-league game in force... major kudos, no joke. And they were there EARLY too! However, after the first TV timeout, they were deathly quiet save for a few outbursts on dunks and threes. They need to get better organized with some chants, bring more crazies with them into the seats, and get more vocal. It was the same lame Block O as in years past, except with more butts in the seats (which is a nice step in the right direction) in a new section.

Deathly quiet and lame? That sounds like the fans in the rest of the arena who only stood and made any noise while trying to get t-shirts from Brutus and the cheerleaders. The students were screaming during every Aggy possession in the first half and for about the first third of the second half. While it may not have seemed loud in other parts of the arena, it was fairly loud on the floor. I was standing in the first row behind our coaches (amazing seats) and could not hear what they yelling to our players.

The student section would be louder if the athletic department had not cut their ticket allocation by 54% the last two years (2008- 3000 allocated, 2010- 1400 allocated). It's not like there isn't a demand for the tickets. Student tickets sold out in 75 minutes. The students could have been louder, but it is unreasonable to expect the students, who make up 7% of capacity, to fill the whole arena with noise themselves.
