Game Thread Ohio State vs Indiana, 10/08/16 @ 3:30 ET, ESPN/WatchESPN

I am happy with the win. I do have a problem with the offensive play calling. It was puzzling. JT was very off today and the running game was rolling yet they killed their own momentum with pass calls. I don't know.

Well we have to be balanced to beat some of the better teams on our schedule and we have been so run oriented all year even with a supposed emphasis in the throw game.

IMO it's not the issue of calling a pass or a run its the type of throws they are calling. As I said so far after watching the first half on DVR man how many times did we throw deep (and they were open a lot) or ask JT to just stand in there? The slants to Brown although one was broken up are perfect plays for JT early. To me they just never found the right rhythm so far through 1 half.

IU won in Bloomington last week against Sparty.

MSU is looking really bad. IU is middle of the road. Good run game, pass game can be dangerous. That defense...much much improved. Tom Allen has to be one of the better off-season coaching hires this year. I am concerned about Barrett's decision-making, passing and overall control of a game. Honestly, this should be Samuel's team much in the way it should have been Hyde's team. I hate seeing a QB ridden like Miller/JT were today. I get that it's sort of Meyer's M.O., but I also thought the Bucks should be a team of distributed wealth. Today was a poor effort across the board.

I'm complaining about a 21 point win. Back to happy drinks.

IU drive log after their TD to begin the half:

3 plays, -3 yards
3 plays, 0 yards
3 plays, 1 yard
4 plays, 7 yards
4 plays, 5 yards
3 plays, 12 yards.

That's 20 plays for 22 yards and 1 first down on the last possession.

Total TOP on those 6 possessions: 6:30
Against an offense that came into the game averaging 10 feet short of 500 yards per game...

If JT had a better day with his accuracy, we'd have over 50 points of offense. It's good to get a game like this out of the way with the Wiscy game coming up next week...
Yeah I just can't muster much concern after this game. How many of us were losing our minds over a 2TD win over a worse Indiana team in 2014? And that was an older team than what we have now. I'll take a 3 TD win against what's most likely Indiana's best team in awhile. Hell remember when JT only threw for 74 yards and a pick six against Penn State? Then came back two weeks later and threw for 300 yards against a solid Sparty D?

Watched all the game...some final thoughts

Nick Bosa and Landers really were dominant up front and I though Hubbard had some flash too. Also Jerome Baker was a boss today and made a number of stop in the backfield. I didn't notice him in the game late though is he ok?

Also Lattimore is such a pro at raking the ball away at the last moment. Howe good is this secondary!

Both the long pass play to Westbrook and the TD to Paige we were in zone coverag. We are too damn good to go zone, just roll with what got you there in the first place with man to man. The tunnel screen was just a good ass play calling credit to them.

To me the coaches wanted nothing to do with this game from the get go. You hear it in UFMs voice when he speaks of IU throughout the week and ultimately you see it on the field. The play calling was to limit turnovers, and to just lean on a defense that he knew physically outclassed the opposition yet again

When you play not to lose you have games like this. I really like the way Weber runs and why he didn't get more touches instead of JT is beyond me. I know Urban said it's because it's why they were giving us but then stop calling read option plays. What concerns me is our total reliance on JTs running abilities when things get tough and our stubbornness in not trying to figure out how to generate offense through the air. Too many times its feast or famine with our air game and that needs to be figured out yesterday.

We will lose a game if we do this against one of the big 3 teams in wisconsin/msu/scum. 90 yards through the air is a joke if you run shotgun up tempo as a base. Overall color me concerned with this part of our offense.
