The Buckeyes can control this game if they succeed in the red zone, minimize turnovers, and avoid problems on special teams.
They haven't done it much this year, but 2 or 3 years ago Fitz frequently ran a punt play where their gunners run up both seams and the punter boots a rugby-style kick aimed directly at one of the gunners. It's intended to hit the receiving team's blocker in the back, and then the gunner jumps on it for a fumble recovery. I wouldn't be surprised to see them try that a few times on Saturday - I sure hope that Urban and Schiano have the return team prepared to not fall victim to that.
i was pleasantly surprised last week when Urbz mentioned how much attention they gave the punt block in game prep..i'd say STs have been a disappointment overall w/ Urbz relative to the expectations coming in ("he's the ST coach, they'll be elite" etc etc) and it was nice to hear that the staff is self-aware enough to recognize that STs, not necessarily the O or D matchups, would likely need to play a large role if they were to win last week. i think this self awareness has lacked in years past and has allowed teams to catch them sleeping a little bit
i have immense respect for Fitz. i think he's the best raw coach in the B1G and honestly don't think it's particularly close, so i have little doubt he is paying just as much attention to STs. if the talent disparity weren't so wide here this game would be won by coaching decisions imo.
I would say the return games have underperformed but KO coverage, punt coverage and blocks have been quite good to elite overall.
