Ohio State uniform history

Hey guys, I hope this is the right forum for this. But I was wondering is there is a web site that has a complete history the Bucks football uniforms down through the years. I am really trying to figure out what color the helmet was when Howard (Hopalong) Cassady won the heisman. From the pics I have found it is either white, or a light grey. Does any one happen to know? Thanks

the helmet was light gray when Hop played.
The Buckeyes did have a white helmet before that.
I just got a new computer todayso I have to find old bookmarks and try and save old pictures.

I had saved the Dispatch Uniform history page too

I love the history of the Buckeyes uniforms and helmets. I have studied both and think I know pretty much about the evolution.

In my opinion both the Dispatch page and the team print page have some errors.

The Chic Harley era stripes appear to be brown which is correct on the team print picture. The Dispatch page had them gray. Also the mid 1920s stripes appear to be gray which is correct on the dispatch page but not the team print one.

For Ohio State 49 this is a picture of the 1939 Buckeyes coming out of the locker for the Indiana game

Evolution Of Ohio State uniform
You know this would be a great page for bpWiki! You should make a page on the history of the uniforms and one on the history of the helmets, and any other pages if you'd like to.

I believe the leather strips on the Harley Era jerseys were made of a material called moleskin.

I was a regular two to three games a year fan by 1953 and the helmet was definitely gray by then. those uniforms also included stockings with stripes that matched the pattern on the sleeves on the jerseys... very cool. The Janowicz helmet would have been white... with scarlet pants and jerseys...

The helmet went from Gray to scarlet and back to gray in one three year period 1966 - 1968. The silver started in 69.

This year's home jerseys suck and they need to make the pants gray again.

Where did you find that? Have you found any photos of a number 45?

The picture was from one of my Ohio State tapes. I think that was from The Birth of Ohio Stadium. It had a small part of actual film from the Indiana game.

I was looking for #45 but didnt see it. #43 was shown clearly in 2 of the pictures I took of the tape. I just paused the tape to take some pictures
