Ohio State to raise ticket prices?

DaddyBigBucks;2295381; said:
The proposed increase in prices includes highly increased prices for "premium" games and more modest increases for other games. This is a change that is long overdue and will put a great deal of money in the University's pocket rather than in the scalpers' pockets.

so you're saying raising tickets almost $50 is a good idea?

whatever

If they cut ticketmaster (and thus their fees) out of the deal, the 9 dollar increase would be a wash.

In terms of the big games they have a point. The fact is they are selling those tickets way below their market value.

Of course they could accept that not all seats at Ohio Stadium were created equal and price accordingly. Paying the same to sit behind a post as you would to sit on the 50 yard line in A deck is a little silly

You want SEC money for coaches, you're going to get SEC ticket prices. Enjoy.

I don't think this has much impact on this decision. It's not like the athletic department is exactly struggling to make ends meet. It would be nice to see this additional revenue going back to the academic side of the school tbh.

and yet they'll still sell out every single game....it's not arrogance to tell the truth about the demand for tickets.

Right, who is this squeezing?

If students can't afford this latest bump, they shouldn't have tickets at all after paying 15k for a year at the University.

If season ticket holders can't afford this latest bump, they shouldn't have tickets at all seeing as how they are paying 1.5k annually for the right to buy 2 season tickets at face.

The premium games rarely make it to public sale and the scalper market is independent of whatever plan OSU puts in place.

You can score less-than-face tickets for half the games if you venture off of Lane or High.

I'm saying that I'd rather have the $50 (or whatever the increase is for that game) go to The Ohio State University than to a scalper. For most of the games I go to, I pay $50 or more over face value. This change has me paying the same price but supports the University rather than a stranger.

whatever indeed

takes out a lot of out of state alums, like my dad

we were barely able to afford to go to one game, and we weren't traveling all the way there for a shit game either..

There's absolutely no reason to enter an alumni lottery now, that was one of the benefits, having the chance to buy Michigan tickets at face value

This is spot on.

maybe for you it doesn't matter, but there are plenty of people out there like myself, who can only afford face value tickets, and not gonna spend the money to travel for a game against Buffalo

If you're "not gonna spend the money to travel for a game against Buffalo," then what are you complaining about? Were you able to get tickets to the premium games at face value before?

I'm not, that's why i'm pissed off about it, I've likely seen my last game in Ohio Stadium, I don't want it to be, but I can't afford it

The Ohio State athletics department is a business and a very profitable one. Why shouldn't they try to find the right price point for the huge demand for tickets?

And there's the rub.

Like many people, my income has fluctuated wildly over the years. When I'm doing well; I go to big games and pay big prices to scalpers. When I have struggled, I've gone to lesser games for face value. Some years I've even had to forego game attendance entirely. In all of this, I responded to the market by choosing to buy or not to buy; not by suggesting that the market should change. The only way to change the market is through fraud or coercion. Both are immoral, regardless of who engages in them or their title.
