The Buckeyes are in full pursuit of more elite talent as three new offers go out.

Alright, everyone knows it has been said over and over again, especially this close to the end of the recruiting cycle, but it’s true: Ohio State’s football staff is truly putting the finishing touches on the 2018 class.

As the National Signing Day approaches, time is running out in making the last additions to the class. As a flurry of offers went out, it proves that recruiting is a round-the-clock endeavour. Recruits who were thought to go one place, go somewhere else; locks, appear anything but.

Fortunately for the program, the OSU coaching staff has been working around the clock in maintaining the Buckeyes No. 1 recruiting class ranking for 2018. As a matter of fact, the coaching staff is going another step forward: they are laying down the groundwork for dominate recruiting classes in the years to come.

Sunshine State offer extended

While on the recruiting trail, Florida is a territory that Ohio State consistently strikes gold with. To be quite honest, Florida is really the Ohio of the South in terms of how much success Meyer and company have year in and year out. That definitely helps the Buckeyes, too, considering how talented the state of Florida is each and every recruiting cycle.

Yesterday, the Ohio State staff was at its old antics once again as they sent out another offer to a rising prospect.

Enter Lloyd Summerall, an Auburndale, Fla., native and you have a 6-foot-6, 220-pound 2019 defensive end prospect. Summerall is currently the owner of nearly 20 total scholarship offers. With programs such as Florida State, Georgia, Tennessee, Miami (FL), Nebraska, and most recently Ohio State all in the fold, it’s easy to see how many programs are really starting to pick up an interest in this Florida talent. In fact, within just the last week alone, Summerall has added six offers—cementing him as one of the most talked about 2019 prospects.

As things stand right now, Florida State is thought to be the early leader, but with a new coaching staff introducing itself to Seminoles fans, this could be the perfect time for Meyer and the Buckeyes to make up some ground or lay a serious foundation to become a real threat to land this prospect. Time will tell, but if a visit to Columbus happens for Summerall sooner than later, anything is possible.

Beefing up the trenches

Ohio State is hoping to add another elite offensive lineman to their 2018 class within the next two weeks, but the time is now for the Buckeyes to look to the future with the same thought in mind to beef up the trenches with the top talent they are currently recruiting. With the “slobs” continue to have success paving the way for the Ohio State offense, the staff also hopes that success carries itself off the field and onto the recruiting trail.

Yesterday, newly appointed offensive coordinator and quarterback coach Ryan Day headed east to Massachusetts, and while on his visit made a stop to see Kevin Pyne, a Millis, Mass., native that has the stature alone to impress any major college football program. The visit ended very well as Pyne was the recipient of an Ohio State offer.

The near 6-foot-9, 275-pound monster is only a high school sophomore —meaning he has two full seasons still to be played before his graduation in 2020. With another two years to add weight, technique and strength, offensive line coaches from all over the country are itching for the chance to win this prospect.

With 16 current offers from the likes of Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky, Virginia, and more, Ohio State may be a little late to the party, but with their status, they’re never out of the picture. Ironically, the heated rival Michigan Wolverines are the early favorite to eventually win the services of this stud, but if Meyer knows anything, it’s how to beat Michigan not only on the field, but also on the recruiting front. This is a battle that may heat up rather quickly, and we’ll be here to watch it all unfold.

Another one...

Staying out east, Coach Day kept extra busy as he made a second stop to yet another state. Connecticut found its way to the focal point of the Buckeye recruiting efforts, as Day was in full pursuit of one of the best in the entire state.

The prospect in question is Tre Williams, a 6-foot-3, 275-pound defensive tackle in the class of 2020. A newer name to the Ohio State side of things, but certainly not a new name to the recruiting front, Williams already holds double-digit offers with two more prep years still to be played.

Blessed to received an offer from my dream school The Ohio State University...All glory to god!!! #GoBucks⭕pic.twitter.com/hdk6cdSsuP

The interesting thing to note here: Williams made it abundantly clear when he announced publicly via his Twitter account that the Buckeye offer was coming from his “dream school”. Now we’ve all seen the “dream school” scenarios not play out in the end, but as it shapes out right now, the clear leader for Williams is in fact Ohio State. It was only a matter of time before the Buckeyes came calling his name and it looks as if this offer truly hits home with Tre and is a real game changer. It could only be a matter of time before he makes his pledge, but as a 2020 prospect, there’s more than enough time for other to catch up and make their pitch as well. For now though, the Buckeyes surely have the lead in this one with their offer coming yesterday.
