Ohio State University has suspended starting Quarterback Troy Smith for their upcoming Alamo Bowl Game versus Oklahoma State.
The university has already petitioned the NCAA for Smith’s reinstatement for the 2005 season.
Head Coach Jim Tressel, in a news conference, indicated that this was a “huge surprise” and that Ohio State will “pay the penalties and go forward from here.” Tressel also said that he “really can’t” end any speculation right now.
When asked about his responsibility, Coach Tressel replied: “We are dealing with human beings, kids and people that impact kids and sometimes they don’t give kids good advice.”
While Tressel said he would not comment on the infractions, he did say that Troy Smith told him: “I understand I’ll start at the bottom of the totem poll when I come back.”
