Ohio State still at No. 2 in this week’s AP, Coaches Poll

Not as many moves as expected after Week 1 of college football.
The Ohio State Buckeyes came away with their first Big Ten conference win against the Hoosiers last Thursday, but it wasn’t without some early struggles. After a first half that most fans would like to forget, the offense finally started rolling mid-way through the third quarter and the defense — notably, the secondary — finally found their swagger.
Preseason polls listed the Buckeyes at No. 2, and the team kept their spot heading into Week 2. Oklahoma came into the season as part of the top 10, and with a marked victory over UTEP in their season-opener, inched closer to the Buckeyes at No. 5 in the AP Poll.
It was a good weekend for most Big Ten teams, with Michigan boosting their stock (up to No. 8) after beating a Florida team that was missing 10 players, and Penn State (up to No. 4) putting on a clinic against the Akron Zips. And in other rival news, Clemson -- who was a big question mark with QB Deshaun Watson heading to the NFL -- bumped up a few spots to No. 3 after their victory over Kent State.
Florida State came into the 2017 season at No. 3, and didn’t look all that bad against the No. 1 Rolling Tide until their starting quarterback Deondre Francois went down with a season-ending knee injury. The Seminoles might stay in the Top-10 for a week or two, before the backup situation is fleshed out and discounted, but they are looking toward a steep drop in the rankings as the season presses forward.
The Buckeyes will host the Oklahoma Sooners for Ohio State’s home opener on Saturday. Not only are the Sooners looking for their revenge from last year’s trouncing, but ESPN’s College GameDay will head to Columbus for it’s second-week in a row covering the Scarlet and Gray. The prime time matchup will kick-off at 7:30 p.m.
