Ohio State sends offers to a WR and QB

Both are from Georgia, and both are part of classes in the not-too-distant future.
As we keep on pushing through the offseason, the Ohio State Buckeyes coaching staff is pushing through the recruiting trail. Already this week, offers made their way to sought after prospects in the 2019 class and beyond.
That theme was kept up on Wednesday, as more offers found their way to potential Buckeyes. Let’s take a look at who picked up that coveted offer from the Scarlet and Gray.
Zone 6 enters the Peach State
One of those offers went out to wide receiver Jayden Thomas (Atlanta / Pace Academy) from the 2021 class. Thomas, an Atlanta native, made the offer known on Twitter around noontime locally on Wednesday.

Ohio State entered the race early for Thomas— but they weren’t the first major school to come knocking. On June 11, North Carolina made an offer to the 6-foot-2 pass catcher; the following day, both Virginia and Michigan entered the fray by making an offer. Even though the Bucks are fourth to send out an offer to Thomas, according to 247sports, they are at the front of the line in terms of recognizing his skill and potential.
The receiving corps will be a position of need down the line for OSU. This year, seniors Parris Campbell and Terry McLaurin, as well as juniors Binjimen Victor and Austin Mack will be the go-to targets for quarterback Dwayne Haskins. However, there‘s a chance that some of the juniors will not be returning for the 2019 season if they have breakout campaigns in 2018. This creates a chain reaction of inexperience in the receiving department as a whole, which will eventually show at some point.
If everything goes according to plan for OSU, then Ellijah Gardiner, Kamryn Babb, L’Chistian Smith, Cameron Brown, Chris Olave and Xavier Johnson would still be on the roster by the time the 2021 season rolls around. However, by looking at the recent trend of success from Buckeye wideouts, some will leave early; it’s a fact of life. There will always be a need to recruit guys who can catch the football well. With the Buckeyes already on the trail for Thomas, they set themselves up to be in the mix by the time the recruiting rankings come out. If the Pace Academy standout is already getting offers from major schools this far out from his graduation, then he has some obvious talent. If Ohio State can be the one that wins his commitment, then looking into the deep future for WR talent becomes a little bit less stressful.
The QB for 2020?
We’ve mentioned it at least twice over the past week: The QB options for the Buckeyes are slim in the 2019 cycle. Assuming OSU punts on getting a QB in the upcoming class, what looks possible in 2020 in terms of signal callers?
Co-offensive coordinator and QB coach Ryan Day is already ahead of that question, and has found a passer that could fit in the Bucks’ scheme. CJ Dixon (Loganville, GA / Grayson) is listed as a pro-style QB in the 2020 class, and was the latest passer to pickup an offer to play college football in Columbus, Ohio.

From a rankings standpoint, there isn’t anything out on Dixon. But, if big-time offers keep coming through, then it won’t be a surprise if the Loganville, Ga., native sees his name at (or near) the top of QBs in the 2020 recruiting class.
Last month, Boston College sent Dixon an offer— and only bigger offers have followed. On June 9, the Florida Gators threw their name into the hat for Dixon’s services. A day prior to picking up the Gators’ offer, the 6-foot-5, 210-pounder was attending a camp by the Florida State Seminoles. With an Ohio State offer now in hand, it wouldn’t shock me if Florida State or another SEC school mailed out an offer to Dixon before the end of the month.
If a QB isn’t taken in ‘19 by the Buckeyes, then they will absolutely need one in 2020. The process of recruiting—especially in a position of need—can never start too early.
