The No. 3 ranked prospect in Ohio for next year's hoops class will be on campus this weekend.
In-state prospect to visit
Ohio State will be back in Ohio Stadium this weekend as they try to solve their offensive problems against Western Michigan. Not only will plenty of fans be in the building, '17 PG Markell Johnson of East Technical (OH) in Cleveland will be as well. The news was first reported by Land-Grant Holy Land's own Zach Fleer and was confirmed on Johnson's Twitter account.
Johnson is currently graded as a four-star prospect in the 2017 class and falls directly below Kaleb Wesson, an Ohio State commit, in the state of Ohio rankings at No. 3. As of now, the 6'0, 160-pounder has yet to land an offer from the Buckeyes but does have offers from DePaul, Florida, Ohio, VCU, Virginia Tech, and more. We'll see if this weekend's visit puts Johnson in a position to get an offer from the Scarlet and Gray.
I caught up with the aforementioned Fleer, who has seen the Clevelander in action previously, to get a scouting report:
"(Johnson) is a super explosive point guard that came onto the scene early as a freshman. He has elite speed, quickness, athleticism, and play-making ability. He can dominate the game on the defensive perimeter and does a little bit of everything well. Markell is a likable kid that loves basketball and works tirelessly to get better, even while being the top guard in Ohio's 2017 class. He's an elite slasher on the offensive end, can break anyone down off the dribble and gets into the lane at will. His jump shooting is the only area that he could improve on offensively, as he seems pretty refined everywhere else.
Carter gets mail
Switching gears to the gridiron and another Ohioan that could very well be on the verge of an Ohio State offer. '17 WR Dakari Carter from Streetsboro (OH) posted an impressive picture on Twitter last night that included hundreds of letters from programs across the country.
As you can see, the local speedster is receving mail from schools like Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, and off to the left, scattered in the large pile, includes a couple of pieces from the Buckeyes. Carter currently isn't graded on the 247Sports composite scale, but he's shown enough talent to land offers from schools like Akron, Bowling Green, Cincinnati, Ohio, and Toledo at this point. Obviously, Carter is one that Ohio State is keeping tabs on, so we'll see if he happens to add a Buckeye offer in the future.
