The Ohio State coaching staff has spent the last couple of days in a number of places on the recruiting trail.

Well, the current Ohio State Buckeyes do not have a game this week, or next...or the week after that. That pretty much means one thing for the coaching staff: recruiting. Over the next few weeks, expect to hear several reports about Ohio State coaches around the country checking in on current commits while also casting a wide net to see if any other prospects will bite.

Wade gets a visit

The Ohio State coaching staff was in to see Lamont Wade yesterday. Wade, a four-star cornerback and class of 2017 prospect, has held the Buckeyes in high regard throughout his whole recruiting process so far. A handful of experts eventually expect Wade to sign with OSU when it's all said and done. Right now, though, Ohio State is sticking to protocol which is to keep building relationships with him and his family.

From Pennsylvania, Wade currently holds 19 offers and the biggest challengers to the Buckeyes are thought to be Penn State and West Virginia. Wade took an unofficial visit to Columbus the weekend of November 21 and reports indicated that he enjoyed the trip in its entirety. This recruiting battle has no end in sight, but Ohio State is sitting in a great position as of now. It'll be important for the Buckeyes to get Wade back on campus in the springtime or over summer.

Bucks in to see Burns

It was also reported that current Louisville cornerback commit Rodjay Burns was paid a visit by the Ohio State coaching staff this week as well. Burns is a 2016 prospect. This one is interesting because the Buckeyes have long relationships with other players in this position group who've they felt fairly optimistic about dating back to last summer.

However, things change. If things don't work out with their former targets, Burns might be the next guy in line to get an offer from Ohio State. At 6'2 and 175 pounds, Burns is a lengthy athlete who can also run. It wouldn't be shocking to see him line up at safety at the next level, either. Burns attends Trinity High School in Kentucky, which has a knack for sending players off to play college football. If Ohio State is contacting a player this late in the process, it's not to play games with him.

Am told Ohio State had a coach at Trinity checking in on Louisville commitment Rodjay Burns.

QUICK HITS

  • Ohio State tight end commit Jake Hausmann was presented with his Army All-American jersey on Tuesday afternoon at his high school. Hausmann is the number three rated tight end in the country and will without a doubt challenge to earn playing time next year as a true freshman with multi-year player Nick Vannett moving on to the next level.
