The Buckeyes sent out a scholarship off to a blue-chip Fighting Irish commit.

Urban Meyer and the Ohio State Buckeyes continue to show their determination in making next year’s recruiting class as strong as this year’s. Starting the week off with a bang, the Buckeyes sent out a scholarship offer to an elite defensive tackle committed to Notre Dame yesterday.

Jayson Ademilola (Jersey City, NJ / St. Peters Prep) is a four-star defensive tackle and is the country’s No. 242 overall recruit, the No. 21 best DT and is the fifth best recruit in from New Jersey, all according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

The 6-foot-3 and 283-pounder committed to Notre Dame in June 2016 along with his twin brother, Justin Ademilola. While Justin has yet to receive an offer, it would be surprising to see the Buckeyes offer just one, as the two are an assumed packaged deal.

The brothers received a visit from Buckeye coaches in January during a two-day visit and the program is expecting to receive a visit from both this coming season.

Along with Notre Dame, Ohio State will be competing with some of the most highly respected programs in the country including Clemson, Michigan, Alabama, Michigan State, North Carolina, Oregon, Penn State and plenty of others.

Ohio State offers 4-star PG

The Ohio State football program isn’t the only one on campus hard at work on the recruiting trail, as Thad Matta is still trying to build on his 2017 recruiting class. Matta did so over the weekend when four-star point guard Mark Smith (Edwardsville, IL / Edwardsville).

Smith is the country’s No. 107 overall recruit in this year’s class and is the No. 25 PG, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

The Buckeyes have two commits already in the class in center Kaleb Wesson and point guard Braxton Beverly. However, there is some concern that current Buckeye PG JaQuan Lyle will leave to play professionally. If that were to happen, the team would be in need of a third PG for depth, at the least, to go along with Beverly and CJ Jackson.

Currently, Northwestern is seen as the favorite to land Smith, but the Ohio State offer appears to have excited Smith. The PG spoke with Alex Gleitman of Rivals.com and said he had been waiting on the offer and has reason to believe he could receive ample playing time.

While it is uncertain when Smith will officially decide, the Buckeyes definitely are in play. Expect Smith to wait until the signing period in April before making a decision.
