Ohio State offers 2027 Texas native, continues to grow summer guest list

The Buckeyes sent out their latest offer in the 2027 class to a top Texas athlete.
The busy offseason continues for the Buckeyes, as Wednesday was another news-filled day. The report of Ohio State hiring Matt Patricia to take over the defensive coordinator role is an interesting choice, but Ryan Day has earned the benefit of the doubt when it comes to his new hires with a national championship now under his belt.
Additional promotions being named for both Tim Walton and Matt Guerrieri, those are moves that were well deserved and expected, so while not a shock, it’s proof to how busy the last couple weeks have been.
Besides the coaching staff additions and moves, recruiting continues to be at the forefront of the coaching staff’s minds, and there’s plenty of new updates to get into on the trail.
Always a priority state when it comes to recruiting, Texas has been nothing but good to Ohio State over the years. The Buckeyes make their rounds in the Lone Star State each recruiting cycle, and rightfully so when you consider the amount of talent that is being produced in one of the better football regions the country has to offer.
Making another stop in Texas on Wednesday, the Buckeyes offered their latest player in the 2027 class in Myson Johnson-Cook. A 6-foot-2, 220 pound athlete out of the familiar DeSoto prep power, Johnson-Cook is the No. 19 player nationally and the top athlete in the country per the 247Sports Composite.
Nearly 20 offers to his name from the likes of Georgia, Oregon, Penn State, Tennessee, Texas A&M, USC, and a host of others, it’s not hard to see why Ohio State has decided to get in the mix. Being able to play a multitude of positions, Johnson-Cook has the speed and size to be a difference maker anywhere on the field, but at running back, this is a can’t-miss type of player.
Odds are Ohio State’s offensive staff will be all over this recruitment for the long haul, and having success at DeSoto before doesn’t hurt either.
Sure to be a loaded summer, Ohio State always has an impressive month of June when it comes to hosting top talent from all over the country. The same case this coming summer, the Buckeyes are already seeing top names put their visit plans in place to get to Columbus. With this coaching staff doing a bulk of their official visits early on in June, look for the success from last year’s opportunities to carry right over as the plan looks to be replicated.
New names being added to the future guest list, four-star running back Carsyn Baker let it be known he will be in town for an Ohio State official visit come June 13.
The No. 241 player nationally and 18th best running back in the 2026 class per the 247Sports Composite, the Georgia native will get a chance to spend ample time with position coach Carlos Locklyn, and his recruiting chops speak for themselves.
In addition to Baker, the Buckeyes also have plans to host five-star safety target Bralan Womack just a week later on June 20 when he too takes his official visit to see Ohio State and all they have to offer.
Likely the top safety on Ohio State’s board for the 2026 class, Womack is the No. 27 player nationally and the second ranked player at his position per the 247Sports Composite. A name that is being discussed consistently when it comes to the Buckeyes and their defensive back priorities, getting Womack to Columbus is another chance to impress him and hope that he too ends up in the fold.
What the safety position was able to do this season with Caleb Downs and Lathan Ransom roaming the back end has to impress Womack immensely, and this staff fully believes he’s the next Downs-caliber athlete they wish to land. Not going to be easy to fight off the others, the Buckeyes sit in a good position currently and will look to keep that the case for the long haul regardless of when he’s visiting.
A true freshman this year who showed a few glimpses of why he was heavily recruited to Ohio State, this is a major win for the position, as his presence will give the running back room the desired extra depth it needs. Besides just the depth piece, he’s a very talented player who can compete on this roster.
A solid win for Locklyn and the team overall, getting Sam to stay in Columbus helps solve some of the worry surrounding what had previously been just one returning scholarship player at the position.
