The Buckeyes are also hoping to earn a big commitment in the 2025 class later this week.
Ohio State had a busy start to July, earning its 23rd verbal commitment in the 2025 class when five-star linebacker Riley Pettijohn committed the first week. However, post Pettijohn’s pledge, things have been a bit more quiet for Ohio State recruiting.
This past weekend, the Buckeyes saw their claim for the top spot in class fold to Alabama according to some national recruiting databases. This followed the massive commitment of five-star offensive tackle Ty Haywood.
Ohio State certainly needs to get back on the right track to reclaim the top spot, and that may happen sooner than later as 2025 four-star defensive lineman and Ohio State target Jarquez Carter is scheduled to commit Thursday of this week. He will be choosing between the likes of Ohio State, Miami, Penn State, UCF and Florida.
Carter took an official visit with the Buckeyes in June and the visit seemingly went as well as possible. Miami has long been viewed as the favorites to land Carter, but the Buckeyes have been gaining steam as of late and have a legitimate shot to land a commitment from him this week.
While this is certainly the biggest Ohio State recruiting story line of the week, it is far from the only one.
2026 four-star offensive tackle, Felix Ojo (Mansfield, TX / Lake Ridge) spoke with Bucknuts on Monday, and it was reported that he plans to use an official visit with the Buckeyes during next year’s official visit season.
While Ojo has a lot of time left in his recruitment, he already has a solid relationship formed with the Buckeyes. Ojo visited Columbus earlier this summer for a summer camp, and he left the weekend with an official scholarship offer from them. The fact that he is already planning on using an official visit with Ohio State is a good sign for the Buckeyes.
Ohio State is not alone in its pursuit of Ojo, and he is being courted by the likes of Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Tennessee, Texas, Oklahoma, Baylor, Duke, Florida State, USC, Oregon, Penn State, etc.
Ojo is the No. 22 OT in the 2026 247Sports Composite Rankings and is the No. 298 overall recruit. He is also the No. 42 recruit out of the talent-rich state of Texas.
For Ohio State to have fallen out of this one and for Michigan to still be involved is a bit odd.
His top eight schools consist of Kentucky, Indiana, North Carolina, Iowa, Arkansas, Louisville, Notre Dame and Ohio State.

Quick Hits
- Ohio State missed the cut for a 2026 in-state offensive line target on Monday. For Ohio State to have fallen out of this one and for Michigan to still be involved is a bit odd.
