OHIO STATE’S TOP 30 ATHLETES OF 2021-22

9. MATEJ VOCEL, MEN’S TENNIS

Vocel earned All-American honors in both singles and doubles for the 2021-22 season after going 31-8 in singles and 39-7 in doubles. The ITA Midwest Region Senior Player of the Year, Vocel was key to the Buckeyes’ run to the team semifinals of the NCAA Tournament and also made a run alongside Robert Cash to the NCAA doubles final.

The Oklahoma State transfer was consistently one of Ohio State’s top two singles players and went 15-6 against nationally ranked opponents. He finished the year 15th in the ITA singles rankings, behind only Kingsley among Big Ten players.

19. CANNON KINGSLEY, MEN’S TENNIS
Although he wasn’t quite as dominant as he was a year ago, when he won 27 consecutive singles matches, Kingsley earned Big Ten men’s tennis player of the year honors for the second year in a row as he went 22-7 in singles and 23-2 in doubles during the 2021-22 season.

While playing as Ohio State’s No. 1 singles player in dual matches, Kingsley went 15-4. He went 12-4 against nationally-ranked opponents. He finished the year ninth in the ITA singles rankings, higher than any other Big Ten men’s tennis player.

28. JJ TRACY, MEN’S TENNIS
The first of three men’s tennis players on this list, Tracy earned All-American honors for the first time in his career after making a run to the Round of 16 in the NCAA singles championship.

For the season as a whole, Tracy had a team-best 36-6 record in singles and also went 24-6 in doubles. Playing primarily as Ohio State’s No. 3 or No. 4 singles player in dual team matches, Tracy was as reliable as any Buckeye all season as the team went 28-4 and made a run to the semifinals of the NCAA Tournament.

The ITA indoor kickoff draft was held today.
Buckeyes will host Jan. 27-29 regional round with winner advancing to the ITA indoor tournament.
Bucks were the #5 seed,
perhaps the best gauge for how coaches predict the 2023 power teams is based on which region to avoid …
The buckeyes were "selected" as location very late by #44, 53, 54 seeded teams. ☺️

Not much tennis news recently however twitter announced this opportunity for six college teams to receive exposure on the w&S atp pro tour in Cincinnati.
Sunday qualifying is typically a lighter schedule day so this exhibition will add some extra interest, esp w. ND, TSUN, UK AND TOSU.
I think I read the format will include team men's, women's and mixed doubles.

JJ is now healthy, showed up strong in the final set against #9 seed Rune, down 2-3 Wolf won 4 straight with 2 huge breaks to claim 3rd win against top 50 player this week.
Although he dropped his quarterfinal match last night to Number 1 seed, Rublev ranked #9, Wolf has the momentum to climb the rankings.
Coming soon is hometown W/S in Cincinnati.

The official site has news about former and present Buckeyes who have had success this Summer.
Love to see JJ get some wins and bump into top 100.
Also impressive is the work put in by this year's team... Kingsley, Tracey, Cash, Boulais, and esp. James Trotter.
Two new freshman Anthrop and Bernard also showing up in the atp ratings

The link for Buckeyes 2022-23 team roster has been updated.
https://ohiostatebuckeyes.com/sports/m-tennis/roster/
A very strong core of seniors will return led by graduate James Trotter and true seniors Kingsley, Boulais and Cash.
Junior JJ Tracey will also be back to anchor a top spot in the singles lineup.
The future is bright with 3 blue chip recruits from the 2022 class ranked by the tennis recruiting network including #1 Jack Anthrop , #3 Alexander Bernard and #16 Preston Stearns, (btw his sister Peyton Stearns was the ncaa women's singles winner in May),
Have to project some very Exciting days ahead.

JJ Wolf with the first upset of the men’s US Open. Taking down #16 seed and ATP #18 in the world in straight sets 6-4, 6-4, 6-4.

He’s having a heck of a season.
