  • Has consistently been ranked among the Top 5 U.S. players throughout his junior career.
  • Ranked as high as 497 in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) rankings
OK, 2 new guys (i.e. Victor Lilov and Ilija Palavestra) are listed as Sophomores. I don't remember seeing their name on the roster last year. Did they transfer in from another school or is it a result of the new NCAA 5 year eligibility rules where the clocks starts when they are 19 and both guys happen to be 20 now? Ya think either one has a chance of making one of the top 6 single players this season?

NCAA Champion Andrew Lutschaunig Returns to OSU as the New Assistant Coach​

Ty Tucker and the Ohio State men's tennis program announced Tuesday afternoon that Ohio State men's tennis alum Andrew Lutschaunig is returning to campus as the team's new assistant coach.

"Andrew is a hard worker and a National Champion for the Buckeyes, and we are excited for him to share his knowledge and experience with our team," said director of tennis Ty Tucker. "While we will miss Hunter Callahan and all the contributions he made to Ohio State men's tennis, we know Andrew has what it takes to make an impact with this program and help them succeed at the highest level."

Lutschaunig returns to his alma mater to take over the assistant coaching position from Hunter Callahan as he moves on to his next chapter. As a student, Lutschaunig in his four years as a Buckeye, including winning a NCAA Doubles Championship in 2023 and an ITA Fall Nationals Doubles Championship in 2022. He was a member of the second Ohio State doubles team to win an NCAA Doubles Championship in program history. Lutschaunig compiled a career record of 68-24 in doubles and went 18-9 in singles.

After graduation, Lutschaunig transferred his skills to help coach at the Kass Tennis Academy in Columbus, Ohio. He joined the world of collegiate coaching last year, where he spent the 2025-26 season with the Dayton Flyers. During his time with Dayton, Lutschaunig helped coach the team to an 18-7 record and was 5-0 in conference play, making an appearance in the Atlantic 10 conference final.

Just sayin': But in case you wondered (and I had to look it up), James Trotter was his doubles partner when they won their NCAA Championship.

Just sayin': I kind of wondered why Hunter Callahan left. I thought maybe some college hired him as a head tennis coach. I Googled that and couldn't find anything. I Googled Ohio State tennis coaches' salaries and found he was only making $36,723.96 a year. Hell, he undoubtedly can make a lot more than that being a tennis pro at a country club just giving wealthy ladies lessons..... :lol:

College students aren’t supposed to be playing or competing in the upper echelons of the pro tennis circuit however seems like no one told that to a couple Buckeye students
Today Carpico and Filin in the second round of the prestigious Us open grand slam men’s doubles tournament will drop their first set, win the 2nd in a breaker then,
In crunch time when amateurs typically fade, they post a third set victory to advance to the third round !
