Re: (When the Hogs initially cancelled Men's tennis) Current student-athletes will also have the option to enter the transfer portal. The Department of Athletics will assist those student-athletes to ensure they find a new program.

Just sayin': When Arkansas cut tennis the players had the option to enter the transfer portal and I believe that some players did.
Anyone know if Arkansas player (#17 ranked and just a sophomore) Jakub Vrba entered the transfer portal?

If he did and still wants to transfer, he would be a good pick up for Ohio State..... :biggrin: Jakub Vrba beat both Alexander Bernard and Nikita Filin this past fall.

Just sayin':

1. UVa finished 28-4 and won the National Championship. Two of those losses were to Ohio State.

2. If everyone eligible on UVa comes back next season, they are going to be tough to beat in 2026/2027.

Filin, Carpico to Compete for US Open Entry​

Top American collegiate tennis players will compete for a wild card spot in the 2026 US Open during a playoff June 16-18 in Orlando, the USTA announced Monday.

The Ohio State doubles team of Nikita Filin and Brandon Carpico, finalists at the 2025 NCAA Doubles Championship, will represent the Buckeyes at the event.

The full player fields will be selected May 27. Player selections will be determined by a committee made up of USTA staff, college tennis coaches and an ITA representative. American NCAA singles and doubles champions this season along with the finalists earned automatic entry.

All matches will be played at the USTA National Campus' Collegiate Center.

The second-year playoff is part of an expanded NCAA-linked wild card pilot program that guarantees at least six US Open wild cards to American collegiate players each year, coinciding with the NCAA DI Individual Championships shifting to the fall.

Filin and Carpico were ranked as high as No. 1 in the ITA weekly rankings this season. The pair finished with an overall record of 37-6 with a 22-3 record in duals. Playing primarily at the No. 1 doubles spot, they put together a 15-2 record at the top of Ohio State's doubles lineup. Overall, the pair was 17-3 against nationally-ranked opponents in 2025-26.

Ohio State finished 32-5 this season. The team earned its 20th-consecutive Big Ten regular-season title and advanced to the program's 18th appearance in the NCAA Tournament quarterfinals.

This Buckeye doubles duo win their opening round and advance to the finals tonight!!!
The finals champion will be given direct acceptance into the US open doubles draw.
The tournament is limited to the top US college players and included Aiden Kim and transfer Matthew Forbes who lost in the semis.

Just sayin': Ohio State will lose at least 2 key players (Jack Anthrop and Alexander Bernard). Obviously Mathew Forbes the transfer from Sparty will play.
Palavestra, a blue-chip recruit from Lake Worth, Florida, will join the Buckeyes in the Spring of 2026 while Petak, a native of the Czech Republic, will join the roster in the Fall of 2026.

It has been reported that Denis Petak and Ilija Palavestra are incoming recruits for 2026/2027. Do either of these guys have a shot at significant playing time this coming season?

Also, is this guy still coming in 2027?

Current player Bryce Nakashima lost a tough 15K title to a talented top-1000 former UCLA player Spencer Johnson. Good week for him!

JJ Wolf just beat former That School Up North player Gavin Young to cap off a great 25K title! 3+ hour battle and he wins in a tiebreak. He was pumped at the end (true Buckeye).

JJ is working his way back from injury (again). Great to see him win. And beat a scummer.

edit- brain fart gave credit to “Brandon” Nakashima for the 15k runner up. It was current Buckeye Bryce.

Brandon is the older, top 50 brother preparing for Wimbledon next week.

Merely a clarifying question if you please. In my experience, tennis (among other sports), has a 'ladder' system. Players play each other, etc, and a ladder is established, 1 through 6. To move up, one has to beat someone higher on said ladder. If the lower player wins, they replace that player, and the former place holder, goes down one, or goes to the place the challenger was. Seems to be the case in wrestling, swimming, orchestra, ?. thanks for clearing away the fog.
