Now please let's add an outdoor championship to itI should have caught this last week when the record was set but with the victory yesterday Buckeye head coach Ty Tucker has passed Stanford legend Dick Gould (776 wins) on the all-time head coach NCAA tennis win list.
Tucker now sits in sole possession of first place with 778 wins in his 27 seasons at Ohio State. Gould accumulated his 776 wins over 38 seasons.
One Buckeye is on fire, sophomore Nikita Filin has won 19 consecutive singles matches. 18 of the wins were in straight sets.
… Forbes, the son of Roger and Denise Lawson-Forbes, is from Raleigh, North Carolina. He transferred from Michigan State University and will have two years of eligibility in Columbus.
He is currently ranked No. 15 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association singles rankings with a No. 38 ranking in doubles. His highest career ranking in singles was No. 3 at the beginning of the 2026 dual season.
Forbes helped the Spartans win their first Big Ten Tournament title this year since 1967, clinching the victory with a three-set singles triumph in a 4-3 battle against Ohio State.
Forbes played at the No. 1 and No. 2 singles positions this season, where he went 20-9. He was 16-10 in doubles….
Re: Bottom part of roster is winning, hopefully enough to pick up if top few stumble a bit.Sounds like a stud get. That's for next year though (?). Anyway, sounds like the Buckeyes are peaking at proper time. Bottom part of roster is winning, hopefully enough to pick up if top few stumble a bit. Kinda think that the doubles point (usually a given W), is up in the air at times. Not entirely certain, as our top singles guys man the doubles teams....All I really know is what I read here, so if I've not connected the dots correctly, would hope that someone would put things in proper perspective. All in all, envision a top four placement, and with a little luck on the spin, maybe bring home the trophy this year. Seems the only thing not on Ty's resume....
