That wasn't you wearing the black polo:biggrin2:

It's hard to believe that a USC team with most of the players being that highly ranked was not higher ranked than Ohio State as a team. Sure, they lost three matches but individually they look very strong. Maybe that Georgia heat will wear them down against the Wildcats and we won't have to worry about them.:io:

No, that was just another "fan" who pops in from time to time at matches to cheer on the team. It is awesome to see the level of support that comes from other staff as well.
Regarding USC, they were ranked by computers just a little lower than one loss tOSU. Their body of work still was very impressive in spite of those 3 losses.
Wildcats will be the underdog but KY has pulled the major upset of the year earlier. They stunned UVA in Feb. so they are capable of quality play. The Friday match is at 9 am est, which is 6am for that west coast team. I doubt the heat would get them, but maybe the jet lag could affect their play.
tOsU will have their hands full with Wisky. The B10 tourny vs. Badgers was one of the best performances for the Bucks. IIRC the Buckeyes won the doubles point and Chase and Justin both had solid wins over top 25 opponents. That match restored some confidence after the too close for comfort 4-3 regular season match at Wisky.

Ohio State (34-1; 13-0 Big Ten), the No. 4 seed in the tournament, improved its win streak to 26 consecutive matches this season after advancing to the field of 16 for the fifth straight year. KRONAUGE REWRITES OHIO STATE RECORDS BOOK
Senior co-captain Justin Kronauge became the program's combined wins leader April 11 vs. Michigan in Columbus. Kronauge passed former Buckeye Bryan Koniecko (254) for first on the combined wins list after defeating No. 97 Evan King 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2 singles in the Buckeyes' 6-1 win over the Wolverines at Stickney Tennis Center.
Currently with 271 career victories, Kronauge, a native of Dayton, Ohio, secured doubles victories in wins over Western Michigan May 15 and Michigan May 16 at the NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Team Championship first and second rounds in Columbus to continue his rise on the combined and doubles wins lists.
In doubles, Kronauge became the program's all-time doubles wins leader (126) in the 4-1 victory against the Wolverines at Stickney Tennis Center. He passed Koniecko (125) after defeating Chris Madden and Chris Cha, 8-4, at No. 3 with Balazs Novak. . .
In singles, the three-time All-Big Ten honoree has 145 career victories, which is second. He is one win shy of tying Moneke for first (146).
THE WISCONSIN BADGERS
Wisconsin, currently ranked 27th in the country is 21-8 overall this season. The Badgers advanced to the Round of 16 for the first time in program history after upsetting No. 13 Illinois, 4-1, May 15 in Urbana, Ill. Senior Moritz Baumann clinched the win for Wisconsin with a 6-4, 7-5 victory over Marek Czerwinski at No. 1 singles. In first-round action, the Badgers defeated Notre Dame, 4-2, May 14. The Badgers have won eight of their last 10 matches this season. In Big Ten play, Wisconsin finished fourth in the standings with a 7-3 record.

WISCONSIN IN THE RANKINGS
Wisconsin has two Badgers ranked in the latest ITA standings announced May 3. In singles, Moritz Baumann is No. 24, while Marek Michalicka is No. 30. The two pair up to be the 15th-ranked doubles tandem in the nation.

OHIO STATE VS. THE BADGERS
Ohio State is 38-32 all-time vs. Wisconsin. In 2010, the Buckeyes are 2-0 vs. the Badgers with wins coming in regular-season and postseason play. In the first meeting, Ohio State won a close 4-3 match April 25 to finish out the regular season schedule in Madison, Wis. Senior co-captain Justin Kronauge won back-to-back sets over Moritz Baumann (6-7, 6-3, 6-3) at No. 2 singles to clinch the Buckeyes' fifth-consecutive Big Ten regular-season title. In the Big Ten Tournament, Ohio State shut out the Badgers, 4-0, May 1 in a semifinal match in Bloomington, Ind.
Under 11th-year head coach Ty Tucker, the Buckeyes have an undefeated 19-0 record against the Badgers
For the record of the 7 times the Buckeyes advanced to the NCAA round of 16 in 98 years of varsity tennis, all seven were with Ty Tucker as head coach.
Of the 7 Big Ten titles men's tennis had achieved, 6 were under the leadership of Tucker. The other Big ten title was 1991 when Ty Tucker was the #1 Buckeye single's player.
People may call him crazy or superstitious, but don't forget to call him a winner.
Go . . . .

Shows how much the doubles point might mean.
Men's tennis: Doubles teams are key to Ohio State's success
Friday, May 21, 2010 2:51 AM
By Jeremy McLaughlin

Ohio State men's tennis coach Ty Tucker was walking out of the Stickney Tennis Center recently when he was asked about his doubles teams. He immediately stopped.

Tucker found a ticket booth made of wood, trotted toward it and began knocking. Only then did he answer the question.

A superstitious fellow, Tucker didn't want to jinx what has become a big part of Ohio State's success. The fourth-ranked Buckeyes (34-1) have won the doubles point in 31 of their matches. He knows, as do his players, that if Ohio State is to win the NCAA championship, securing the doubles point is necessary.

"The doubles point means everything," junior Matt Allare said. "The toughest matches we have come when we lose the doubles point."
That was the case last month against Wisconsin, the team Ohio State faces this morning in the NCAA Tournament round of 16 in Athens, Ga. The Buckeyes lost in doubles but rallied to win 4-3.

Ohio State was fortunate then, but in its past two losses - to top-ranked Virginia this season and to Southern California in the 2009 NCAA championship match - the Buckeyes lost the doubles point. That also happened in a 2008 quarterfinal loss to
Losing the doubles point doesn't always translate to an NCAA loss. UCLA won the doubles point in a semifinal last season before Ohio State won the match.

Jumping ahead 1-0, though, would bring a sense of relief. It would mean the Buckeyes need to win three of six singles matches instead of four to advance.

"If you win the doubles point, it does relieve some pressure (in singles)," junior Shuhei Uzawa said. "We just can't give it away. Doubles definitely is the key for the NCAAs."

Ohio State has been particularly stellar in doubles in recent weeks once Tucker paired Chase Buchanan and Dino Marcan at No.1, Allare and Uzawa at No.2 and Balazs Novak and Justin Kronauge at No.3. Kronauge and Novak are 20-0. Buchanan and Marcan have won 18 of their past 19 matches.
