For the fifth-consecutive season, the No. 4 Ohio State men's tennis team will play host to the First and Second Rounds of the NCAA Division I Championships it was announced Tuesday. Among the field of 64, the Buckeyes earned the fourth-seed and will welcome Michigan, Denver and Western Michigan to Stickney Tennis Center May 15-16.
Ohio State (32-1), the 2009 NCAA Championship runner-up, will play Western Michigan (21-10) in the first round at 1 p.m. May 15. The first match of the day between the Wolverines and Pioneers will begin at 10 a.m. The winners of the opening-round matches will play at noon May 16.
The Buckeyes are 5-0 all time against the Broncos, with Ohio State winning the last meeting, 4-3, in Columbus during the 1998-99 season.
The 16 remaining teams after the second round will travel to Athens, Ga., for the remainder of the championship May 21-25 at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.
Ohio State owns a 22-10 all-time record in the NCAA team championship. Among the contingent traveling to Columbus next weekend, Ohio State has only faced Michigan in the NCAA championship. The Buckeyes downed the Wolverines, 4-1, in the second round last year at Stickney Tennis Center.
After winning its fifth-consecutive Big Ten Tournament title May 2 in Bloomington, Ind., Ohio State earned an automatic bid into the championship. The Buckeyes also have won the conference regular-season title five straight times.
Not to try and take away from the discussion regarding this year's NCAA championship run but I think this bodes very well for the future with McCarthy and Buchanan only sophomores. The state of Ohio is loaded with good tennis players for 2012 & 2013 and many of them are from Central Ohio high schools. We are also in some big-time recruits for 2011 but not sure how many we can take.gracelhink;1699403; said:ITA released the single's rankings for May 3 and two Buckeyes improved in the standings.
2010 Big Ten athlete of the year Chase Buchanan finished as the ITA #8 ranked single's player.
Captain and senior Justin Kronauge finished his playing career as the ITA #23 ranked single's player in the nation.
Also showing in the top 125 were Devin McCarthy and Steven Williams at #120 and #125 respectively.
These single's rankings will be important for the seeds and drawings of the NCAA single's portion of the tournament May 20-30.
Congratulations Justin and Chase on a strong Buckeye performance and these high rankings.

I really cannot say if the players are being recruited by Coach Tucker or not. There is a kid from Upper Arlington (Little) that is very good and there are two players from Gahanna (Chen and Teague) that are also excellent for their age. I understand the 4.5 scholarships available for men's tennis and that's why I consider what Tucker is doing at a "Northern school even more phenomenal:osu:gracelhink;1700378; said:Litl, maybe you can comment more on the 2012, 2013 tennis players being recruited by tOSU.
One of the unique issues and challenges that Ty has managed well is to keep the team content with the available allotment of tennis scholarships.
By NCAA policy, D1 schools may only distribute 4 1/2 scholarships to its men's tennis Student Athletes.
So tOSU can take as many players as qualify for admissions, but the distribution of financial aid is limited to 4 1/2 full rides distributed in partial and full rides.
Right now the tOSU roster has 12 SA's including Nelson Vick who joined in the 2010 spring semester, but is probably grey or redshirting like McCarthy last year.
Two seniors, Justin Kronauge and Mike O'Connell will be graduating this year.
Three Buckeyes on the fourth-ranked Ohio State men's tennis team were selected to the 2010 NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Singles and Doubles Championships the NCAA subcommittee announced Wednesday. Sophomore Chase Buchanan and senior co-captain Justin Kronauge earned selections in singles, while Buchanan and freshman Dino Marcan received an automatic bid in the doubles championship.
The individual championships will begin May 26 following the conclusion of the team tournament at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga. The University of Georgia will serve as hosts of the 2010 NCAA Men's and Women's Tennis Championships.
Buchanan, the 2010 Big Ten Athlete of the Year, received the Big Ten Conference's automatic bid. A native of New Albany, Ohio, Buchanan is the No.7-seed in the tournament. With a 28-4 overall record, Buchanan has claimed 23 singles wins at the top of the lineup, including 19-straight victories. The second-year Buckeye is 17-4 against nationally-ranked opponents, including two in the Top 10.
Kronauge, a three-time unanimous All-Big Ten honoree, earned an at-large bid. A two-time ITA All-American, Kronauge is 34-3 overall this season with a team-high 23-match win streak. He is 18-1 and 11-0 at Nos. 2 and 3 singles, respectively. Last year, Kronauge was named to the 2009 NCAA All-Tournament Team at No. 3 singles, going 6-0 en route to the Buckeyes' first NCAA final appearance in program history.
In doubles, Marcan, a 2010 All-Big Ten selection, paired with Buchanan and received an automatic bid into the Division I doubles championship. The Buckeye pair is currently 18-2 with 14 victories coming from the top of the lineup. Buchanan and Marcan, currently polled ninth in the nation by the ITA, upset the ninth-ranked doubles tandem in the nation in Austin Krajicek and Jeff Dadamo of Texas A&M, 8-7 (7-5) at No. 1 March 7 in Columbus as an unranked pair. Since the win over the Aggies, the duo has captured nine victories over nationally-ranked doubles teams.
No. 4-seed Ohio State is preparing for the 2010 NCAA Team Championship and will serve as one of 16 hosts of the first and second rounds. The Buckeyes will take on Western Michigan at 1 p.m. May 15 at Stickney Tennis Center. Live stats will be available at OSU livestats.

Coach Tucker pulled him off the court and forfeited the match at #3 singles.
After winning its fifth-consecutive Big Ten regular-season and tournament titles, the No. 4-seed Ohio State men's tennis team will continue postseason play as one of 16 hosts for the first and second rounds of the 2010 Division I Men's Tennis Championship Saturday and Sunday at Stickney Tennis Center. The Buckeyes will take on Western Michigan at 1 p.m., while Michigan and Denver will play at 10 a.m. in the first round.
The winner of the Ohio State (32-1) and Western Michigan (21-10) matchup will advance to meet the winner of the Michigan (13-10)/Denver (19-4) contest at noon Sunday for a chance to move on to the Round of 16 at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga. THE WESTERN MICHIGAN BRONCOS
Western Michigan (21-10) claimed its fifth-consecutive MAC tournament championship this year to earn its eighth trip to the NCAA championships. The Broncos shut out No. 1-seed Buffalo, 4-0, May 1 in Muncie Ind., in the championship match. Currently on a five-match win streak, Western Michigan defeated two nationally-ranked teams this season, downing then-No. 74 Depaul, 5-2, Jan. 24 and then-No. 69 Purdue, 4-3, Feb. 27 in Kalamazoo, Mich. . .

We will whip the Broncos like the Lone Ranger used whips Silver when chasing the bad guys:) Then hopefully sCum can win their match (only to uphold Big Ten pride) and then we can put another shutout on themgracelhink;1702353; said:From the official OSU tennis site

The Ohio State women's basketball and men's and women's tennis teams were honored with public recognition awards based on the latest multiyear NCAA Division I Academic Progress Rate (APR), the NCAA announced Wednesday. Each of these teams posted multiyear APRs in the top 10 percent of all squads in their respective sports.
The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete. The APR includes eligibility, retention and graduation in the calculation and provides a clear picture of the academic culture in each sport. . . .
Ty Tucker, head coach of the men's tennis team, has led his team to five consecutive Big Ten regular season titles but is just as impressed by the work of his team in school as on the court.
"It is a great feeling for this team to be recognized for this accomplishment," Tucker said. "The guys on this team are constantly competing in the classroom as well as on the courts. I am honored to coach such great student-athletes."
couldn't you have thrown in the men's basketball team okay back to tennis:)gracelhink;1703147; said:From the OSU official site:
