I'm not on here enough to maintain a thread , not sure about how to start one. It just would be nice since I am a fan of all Buckeye sports. Thanks to both of you.

West Lafayette, Ind. - The No. 3 Ohio State men's tennis team (27-1, 10-0) successfully defended its 2006 Big Ten Tournament title Sunday, when it beat third-seeded Illinois (18-8) in the final of the 2007 Big Ten Tournament at the Schwartz Tennis Center on the campus of Purdue University. Ohio State claimed its third Big Ten Tournament title in the last six years. The Buckeyes also were the 2007 regular-season league champions.

The event this year marked the fourth-consecutive year the Buckeyes and Illini have met in the championship match. Illinois won the first two meetings in 2004 and 2005, but OSU has now won the last two (2006 and 2007).

Ty Tucker, Ohio State head coach and 2007 Big Ten Coach of the Year, improved his record in the tournament to 16-5. Tucker has won five-consecutive Big Ten tournament matches and 26-consecutive Big Ten dual matches. The Buckeyes are one win shy of tying the team all-time record for wins in a season. The mark was set last season when OSU went 28-2.

Tennis tops Tennessee, heads to round of 16

With the season on the line, sophomore Steven Moneke broke a 5-5 second-set tie to lead the Ohio State men's tennis team to the round of 16 in the NCAA tournament.

"It came down to me," Moneke said. "I was a little bit nervous at the end. I knew it was going to be tight in the second set because he came back and gave everything. I had to fight for every point. It was close but I knew that I could play a little better and clinch it."

Moneke, an All-Big Ten selection, won both of his matches Saturday to lead a 4-1 victory against No. 25 Tennessee in the second round of the NCAA tournament.

Men's Tennis in Action in NCAA Singles and Doubles

Three Buckeyes to compete in singles bracket, one pair to compete in doubles action

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ohio State will be represented in the 2007 NCAA Men's Tennis Singles and Doubles Tournaments in Athens, Ga., at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex May 23-28. Three Buckeyes will compete in the singles bracket and a pair of Buckeyes will play in the doubles bracket. The singles field consists of 64 players and starts Wednesday while the doubles field consists of 32 pairs with play beginning Thursday.

In the second day of singles action, Steven Moneke and Bryan Koniecko both advanced. Devin Mullings almost pulled off a big upset against the 7th ranked player in the nation, but fell in three sets.

In doubles action, Chris Kilingermann and Devin Mullings lost to a very good team from Florida 6-2 in the third.

Kings' Allare nation's best

Kings senior tennis star Matt Allare today was named national high school player of the year, as the top player in the graduating class of 2007.
Allare was among those honored by the National High School Coaches Association (NHSCA), which annually recognizes the top high school seniors in a total of 20 boys' and girls' sports.
Allare was 27-0 this year and repeated as Ohio Division I singles champion. He is the first boys' player to win an OHSAA title in four consecutive years, with doubles titles as a freshman and sophomore and singles titles as a junior and senior.

"It's unbelievable," Allare said of his national award. "I had a really successful four years, and that puts the icing on the cake."
Allare has signed with Ohio State for next season.
