Ohio State Men's Tennis (2014/2019/2024 ITA Indoor National Champs, 17 Straight B1G Titles)

My buddy in high school played at an elite level but nothing like this. How conditioned are these guys to go through singles and doubles and still perform at a high level? Amazing to me. Kudos to coach Ty and these athletes no matter how it ends.

Chase Buchanan and Blaz Rola, members of the Ohio State men's tennis team, advanced to the NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Singles Championship Round of 16 Thursday at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga.
The Buckeye duo, which is ranked No. 1 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) polls, opened its NCAA doubles run with a hard-fought 7-6, 7-6 victory over North Carolina's Joey Burkhardt and Jose Hernandez. The win served as the 32nd victory for the tandem on the season. Buchanan and Rola will play Roy Kalmanovich and Dennis Nevolo (Illinois) in the Round of 16 Friday.
In singles action, Buchanan, ranked 10th, hit the courts early for his match vs. Kevin King of Georgia Tech in the Round of 32. Winning the first set 6-2, the Buckeye from New Albany, Ohio, rallied from a 3-0 deficit to take the second set 6-4 and the match. Buchanan has now garnered 31 singles victories in 2011-12 for a career total of 107 wins. Up next for Buchanan is Bradley Klahn of Stanford, who upset No. 4 seed Jamere Jenkins (Virginia) in the first round.
After winning a first-set tiebreaker (7-6), Rola, the No. 9 player in the country, won the second set (6-3) and match vs. Emilio Gomez of USC. With the victory, the Buckeye from Slovenia has a team-leading 34 singles wins on the season. Rola will play Big Ten opponent Nevolo Friday.

In Friday's round of 16 matchups both Rola and Buchanan will face two strong challenges. When it gets to the round of 16 everyone is exceptional.
If my memory serves me right, because they reached the round of 16 NCAA championship single's tournament, Rola and Buchanan will have attained the status of 2012 NCAA All-American.
They should also be named that if they reach the doubles quarterfinals as well.
This All American status is quite an honor -- their names will be added to the Buckeye tennis hall of Fame along with the likes of Gonzales, Fernandez, Moneke, Kronauge, et. al.

Tomorrow looks to be a challenging day for Buckeyes in both singles and doubles.
Buchanan's match is set for 11am against Bradley Klahn of Stanford.
Klahn has been dominant thus far in the single's tournament, upsetting #4 seed Jenkins of Uva and dominating Boutiller today in straight sets.
Chase will need to bring his A game to stay in the match.
Rola will also square off at 11 am against B1G nemesis and #7 seed Dennis Nevola of Illinois.
Rola will have to be sharp, because Nevola is one of the favorites for the championship.
In doubles Buchanan and Rola will face Kalmanovich and Nevola of Illinois in the round of 16. The double's match is scheduled for 4 pm.

Rola makes a major statement with a 7-6, 6-1, upset of #2 seed and Freshman sensation Mitchell Frank of UVA.
FWIW Mitchell Frank is undefeated on the season except against the OSU Buckeyes. His only losses on the season are to Peter Kobelt at the ITA indoor championships and to Blaz Rola in the quarterfinals of the NCAA championships.
Rola will meet #3 seed Eric Quigley of Kentucky in the semifinal tomorrow.

At 4 pm today, Rola and Chase Buchanan will face Quigley and Jha of Kentucky in the NCAA Double's quarterfinal match.

Recap of Saturday's action from the official site.

Chase Buchanan and Blaz Rola, members of the Ohio State men?s tennis team, advanced to the semifinals of the 2012 NCAA Division I Men?s Tennis Doubles Championship Saturday at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga.
The Buckeye duo, which is ranked No. 1 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) polls, continued its NCAA doubles run with an easy 6-3, 6-4 victory over Kentucky?s Panav Jha and Eric Quigley. The win served as the 34th victory for the tandem on the season. Buchanan and Rola will play the winner between Stanford?s fourth-ranked pair of Bradley Klahn and Ryan Thatcher and Oklahoma?s Costin Paval and Dane Webb with a bid to the championship on the line Sunday.
In singles action, Rola, ranked ninth, upset No. 2 seed Mitchell Frank of Virginia in straight sets 7-6 (5), 6-1. The sophomore from Ptuj, Slovenia has now earned a team high 36 singles victories. After a tough first set, Rola cruised to a quick win in the second set allowing just one point to Frank. Rola will face Kentucky?s Quigley, the No. 3 seed in singles, Sunday in the semifinals of the singles bracket.

Rola's semifinal match will be played Sunday at 1:30 pm.
Very tough opponent in Quigley, but Rola's game is exceptionally sharp right now.
Many thought that Frank and Johnson were on a collision course into the finals. Not to be said Blaz Rola.
Impressive win over the Virginia Freshman sensation who won both fall major ITA tournaments.
Also a huge victory for the Buckeye duo and #1 seed. Sunday the double's semifinal is set for 5:30. The opponents will be Paval and Webb of Oklahoma who pulled a mild stunner over the #4 seeded Stanford duo.
The shocker of the day came on the other side of the bracket when #2 seed from USC lost the first set and then defaulted in the 2nd because of injury.
This deep run in the tournament has brought out the best in Blaz rola's single's game and hopefully encourages the Sophomore to return to the Buckeyes for a Junior season.
