Recap of the Buckeyes win vs. Minnesota for the Big Ten Title from,
OSU Men's tennis site.
LINK

The third-ranked and No. 1-seed Ohio State men's tennis team (30-2, 13-0 Big Ten) won its sixth-consecutive Big Ten tournament title with a 4-0 victory against No. 3-seed Minnesota (19-5, 10-3 Big Ten) in the final Sunday at Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison, Wis. With the win, the Scarlet and Gray earn the Big Ten's automatic berth to the NCAA championships. The Buckeyes did not give up a point in their three tournament matches as they picked up three consecutive 4-0 wins en route to the crown.
The men's tennis team joins the Buckeye football (2005-10), women's basketball (2005-10) and men's golf (1982-87) teams as Ohio State programs that have amassed six consecutive Big Ten titles. The Buckeyes have now claimed eight Big Ten tournament titles in program history. Ohio State won its first Big Ten tournament in 1991 - head coach Ty Tucker's (1989-1991) junior year at Ohio State.

"It was a great win for the Buckeyes," Tucker said. "We played outside in tough tennis conditions, but we fought hard. I am proud of the Buckeyes."
Blaz Rola clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Minnesota's Rok Bonin. The win was the sixth in seven matches the Ptuj, Slovenia, native won the fourth-point. Rola now has 35 wins overall, including an 11-1 mark vs. Big Ten opponents and a 15-1 ledger playing at the No. 2 position.
The Buckeyes did not give up a point in their three tournament matches, while extending its Big Ten tournament win streak to 17 matches. The Buckeyes defeated Michigan State and Illinois, 4-0, to reach the final.
The Buckeye duo of Rola and Balazs Novak gave Ohio State an early advantage in doubles by defeating Tobias Wernet and Juan Pablo Ramirez, 8-4, on court three. The pair improved to 12-1 overall and 10-0 in conference doubles competition..
Matt Allare and redshirt-freshman Peter Kobelt, the 18th-ranked duo, moved to 25-8 overall and 11-1 vs. Big Ten opponents after defeating Phillip Arndt and Sebastian Gallego, 8-5, at the No. 1 spot to give the Buckeyes a 1-0 lead heading into singles action. The pair extends their record to 15-5 at the No. 1 position.
Freshman Ille Van Engelen put the Scarlet and Gray within a point of the title with a 6-2, 6-4 victory vs. Gallego on court three. Van Engelen improves to 8-0 vs. Big Ten competition and boasts a 17-6 overall record.
Two-time Big Ten Athlete of the Year Chase Buchanan secured a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Wernet at the No. 1 position. The win was Buchanan's 14th-consecutive singles triumph and he carries a 31-5 overall record, including a 26-2 dual record (16-1 on court one and 10-1 at No. 2) into NCAA competition.

The 2011 NCAA Men's Tennis Championships selection show will air live on ncaasports.com beginning at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

It was stated in the Columbus Dispatch that Ohio State will probably host the first and second round matches of the NCAA tournament. They say nothing about where we will be seeded but I would think that we would be the #3 seed if they go by the ITA rankings but Mr. Tennis can probably answer that question better than me

Also, a question for Mr. Tennis, I was wondering if you think that Tucker will play Buchanan/Rola as a doubles team in this tournament. I know that was stated after the Purdue match but since they did not played together in the Big Ten tournament I am just wondering since they are our highest ranked doubles team.

With all that said, let's go Buckeyes and win the big banana:groove:

Litl, good find on the site of the first and second rounds!
Re. Double's lineup for the NCAA's, I suspect that Ty will probably stick with the double's lineup he has been playing.
When the NCAA individual competitions happen, (right after the team tournament has concluded), Rola and Buchanan will probably earn an invite to play in the NCAA double's tournament. Allare and Kobelt will also probably qualify for that as well.

After last weeks rankings were released (UVA 1, USC 2, OSU 3, Tenn 4), it did not seem possible for Buckeyes to drop below the Vols, U Tenn season was completed and the Buckeyes had the Big Ten tourney left, (which they won by the way over #50, #18, and #19) :)

But incredibly, (insert headscratching icon here) from today's ITA computer rankings release, Tennessee has jumped the Buckeyes in the last poll before the NCAA's and OSU will surely be relegated to the #4 seed. :(
ITA Team Rankings.

Rank .Avg. . School . . . . . . . . . . . . Last Week
1. . .80.33. University of Virginia . . . . .1
2. . .73.12. University of Southern Cal . . .2

20 . .41.85. University of Oklahoma . . . . 25

(Props to Mili for the formatting tip!)

The seeding for the NCAA team tournament will inevitably correspond to these ITA rankings, so the seeds will be, Uva-1, USC-2, Tenn-3, and OSU-4.
Well, OSU (30-2) has to beat undefeated Virginia (28-0) at some point, we might as well do it in the semis.
I think Va was probably hoping that Tenn would get that #4 seed. Of all the teams in the tournament UVa probably fears USC and OSU the most and would love to see both of them in the other side of the draw.
As noted, #2 USC (21-2) will also pose a formidable threat.
Tennessee (21-4) is the weakest of the top 4 teams, I would not be surprised to see them lose early in the tourney.
Go Bucks!

After winning its sixth-consecutive Big Ten tournament title Sunday, the third-ranked Ohio State men?s tennis team earned the conference?s automatic bid into the 2011 NCAA Division I Men?s Tennis Championships.

The complete 64-team field will be announced at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday on ncaasports.com. Fans should choose ?Tennis? from the ?Men?s Sports? pull down menu and select the ?Division I Video.?

(or use this Link)

The singles and doubles fields of 64 and 32, respectively, will be released no later than 6 p.m. Wednesday.

The championships will begin with regional action on campus sites May 13 with the round of 16 beginning May 19 at the Taube Tennis Center in Stanford, Calif.

The Buckeyes will be making their 12th appearance at the NCAA championships, all under current head coach Ty Tucker.

The fields of 64 and 32 for the singles and doubles competitions should include several Buckeyes.
Obviously #5 Rola, #10 Buchanan, but also #50 Allare should get an invitation for the 64 field singles draw and McCarthy at #65 would be first on the reserve list.
In the 32 team doubles draw, Rola and Buchanan, Allare and Kobelt should qualify.

The NCAA interactive championship bracket. LINK
The NCAA principle--no team should travel more than 400 miles was disregarded.
Big Ten teams were expecially victimized.
Michigan to Duke,
Indiana to Texas A & M (which is a brutal site to play on the road)
and Minnesota to California.
#50 Michigan State was on the bubble and just missed the cut.
