Ohio State Men's Lacrosse (2013 ECAC Champions)

Ok, made it home. @rampageripster is being kind... eye twitching and all.

I'm not sure that they would have won today with different officials. Domers did play very good D and every time we got penetration the slide or double was very well timed. Hats off. That's all I can muster to say nice about them.

Officiating was terrible though. Our boys were being called for a lot of ticky/tacky crap and the Domers weren't. Quite a few turnovers as a result... or man ball situations blown dead in favor of the Domers. Probably accounted for three goals over the course of the day. And Sergio was, no doubt about it, in the crease of his own doing. My kid and four of his teammates were on the end line right behind the play and even the non-OSU kids agreed that it was a crease violation. That's another goal... take those away and we still don't win, but a much better reflection of the overall game as it was played.

I hope that the two goals in nine seconds to end the half took a couple of years off Corrigan's time coaching...

How can I put this... If there was a push, there should have been a flag. There was no flag, so I assume no push. ND player left his feet as he shot and landed in the crease. You can look up the ruling from there.

Ugh...

Ugh...

Was in the parent section again, a few former players with us... Cannot tell you the reaction to that non-call.

That was bad, but the blown calls on I cannot tell you how many backups were equally bad. It was comical, in a tragic way. Whoever was closest to the line -- not th ball -- on backups got tha ball. And don't even start me on the fucking flopping they were doing.

Dropped to 5th in the coaches poll.

Pretty fair all things considered... maybe a little too fair... Denver still getting a lot of respect at 4 which I think is high, but I'll take the boost to SoS. Domers are at the top. State Penn and Cuse at 2 and 3. State University of New Jersey dropped below us to 7. UMD still in the top 10 at 9 after crushing last year's national champs UNC last weekend. Frankly, UMD not moving up more after that game tells me that the poll is starting to settle in.

B1G is going to be a gauntlet. Play well in conference and we should get to the dance. They are going to have to bring it in conference though.

Convinced after this weekend, Corrigan got the same deal with the devil as Saban...

I think if we can beat Michigan and Hops we will be fine for the NCAA. It would be a disappointing conference season, but our OOC Ws over Towson & Denver and the total lack of a "Bad" loss on our resume will be enough to push us in. Pick up another win over PSU/UMD/RU and it's a no brainer.

That Notre Dame loss was abut as good of a loss as you could have asked for on our schedule. It is on the road to a top 5 team with a respectable margin (they didn't do to us what we did to Denver... no fucking clue why the Pios are above us after that) and OOC. Should give the coaches a lot of stuff to work on this week to prep for PSU.

I kinda like how the B1G season lays out. I know we have to go to RU and PSU, but those were toss-up games no matter where we were gonna play. What I like is that we have the "easiest" game on the road (Michigan) and get the two that will be tough but we are favored to win at home. Not having to play in College Park or Homewood is big. If we win our home conference games and beat Michigan, that'll get us in the B1G tournament, which is also in Columbus. From there it is a crapshoot and all about matchups until Memorial Day.

Couldn't agree more with that. I hope you're right.

Ugg. That was depressing. We were outclassed last weekend. We looked underprepared today.

Waaaay too many forced TOs from the Offense. D, interestingly, seemed to play man all day. They were very effective in the past couple of weeks going from man to zone and back. I think that with one exception, there wasn't anyone on PSU who stikes me as a cannon outside and as such I would have looked for more zone.

Kills...

Ohio State vs. Johns Hopkins: Watch on BTN, BTN2Go | Live stats

Televised again, thanks B1G. Much rather have Hop this year in the Shoe than at Homewood. Hop hasn't played up to a Pietramala-led team this year, but Dave's one of the best in the biz and when they're a bit up and down (mostly down) like they have been, I'd just as soon have them on our turf.

I expect this to be a good game. Dave's kids always come to play and I expect very good D from them per usual.
Key things for me:
* Jake has to keep things going at FOGO. On paper it's a significant advantage, but I think it's going to be very important based on the fact that
* Hop creates turnovers -- both against settled offense and on the ride. The extra possessions from the draw will be big.
* Have to play a clean game. Hop is pretty good EMO. 57.7% and they are allowing 37% man down.
* Carey has to have a great game. They're also averaging 4-5 more shots than opponents per game, so they're peppering goalies... almost 60% of shots are on cage.

I'm a tad worried about our turnovers. PSU forced A LOT of them and we were beat pretty heavily in the category of non-FO GBs. That cannot happen against Hop or we will dig ourselves a hole. We need to jump on them early, set the tone of the game, and keep the foot on the gas. Carey wasn't BAD against PSU, but his Sav% left something to be desired. I thought he played better in the loss to ND.

On offense, we need to take better shots. At one point we were 1/11 on shots against PSU. That is miserably bad. I wonder if there is now enough film on some of our guys and teams are better able to get on our hands. Would expect to see a couple new sets with the full week at home to work.

Both teams are going to want to keep the laundry in the refs' pockets. Which means a very compact and cautious defense. Often times the threat of a deadly EMO is just as good as a deadly EMO at producing offense.

Just finished the game on delay. Solid team win today. 13-9 v Hop at home. Second time beating them ever... so there's that.

Hard to figure out who the game ball goes to. That's a good thing, I guess. Like I said, it was a team win.

Quiet day from LeClaire and Pearson, but I think that openeded up things for others.

Big day from Tommy between the pipes. More so in the second half, but a good day all considered.

Randall was huge on close D.

Freddie had a solid game at LSM.

Withers did exactly what we needed at FoGo. Was 66%+ maybe 68% when the game was done. Need to look at the box, but the announcers gave credit when due near the end of the game. They basically said that even though Hop can score, their chances are realistically limited due to Jake. Hats off. He's proven himself to be the real deal.

Big surprise was Jasinski at attack. Who knew, eh? Alabama lacrosse? Go figure. He, I guess by default, gets the game ball today. Something like five goals and a couple of assists. So, seven of the 13 points were his... game ball in my book. They just didn't have an answer for him. I've not seen him play as explosive as he did today... ever.

But at the end of the day, it was a team win with some significant bright spots from individuals. I'll take that any day.

Fuckers up north next. Praying for a curb stomping. Will likely have prayers answered. Hope we send them back to club ball.

Edit: I guess I missed Pearson's goals... had two, so not that quiet.

Tommy had seven saves and nine against. One safe at the half if I remember correctly so definitey a better second.

Jasinski had four and three. Still seven points.

Finally, can't find a box with face offs yet.

Edit 2: 19 for 26 facing off (73%) with 10 GBs. Very good day for Withers. Oh, and a pop and go goal to boot.

Consider the ship righted. Michigan next week is another must-win (mostly cause everyone in the league has to beat them to even sniff the B1G tournament). But this weekend was a good one for us. UMD beat PSU so that puts us right back int he conversation considering we get the Terps at home.

Carey gets the game ball for me. We didn't need him to stand on his head, but he made the saves he needed to to keep our lead and stabilize the defense.
