Ohio State Men's Lacrosse (2013 ECAC Champions)

OK, who actually knew that was a NLL and they had a draft?

Raising hand.

Dude, if you like field lacrosse spend some time watching box. I’d rather play / coach box than field any day.

The kid played both growing up. I think he’ll miss box quite a bit. First year playing at the HS level he got laid out by a guy three years older and probably 80 lbs heavier. When we walked to the car I thought there was a chance he would not want to play again. I asked him what he thought and his response was, ‘that’s how lacrosse was meant to be played.’

Love me some NLL!

Edit: And the Canadians are damn good at it. It’s technically (one of) the national game of Canada. It is also why so many Canadians don’t play weak side hand well. Box is all about playing strong hand because you don’t have time to switch sides before someone takes your head off.

The 8th-ranked Buckeyes are playing for the first time in 347 days, on the road at #19 Johns Hopkins. Hopkins' keeper was a Buckeye the previous 3 years.

This is probably a rerun from yesterday (on ESPNU) but it's new for me. Bucks are down 4 players, including our best face-off man. That could be a problem.

From what I saw in the game, I’m pretty bullish about this group in B1G play. We returned a ton of quality players who have been in the system for what seems like forever.

Defense looks very good. Very good. Rides were excellent. Offensively? I don’t know who you try to stop because there are so many different options to put the ball in the net. This may have been the best opening game I’ve seen from tOSU in, frankly, I don’t know how long.

Hard to say how much of this was tOSU looking good or JHU just being out of sorts learning a new system. There’s a ton of talent at JHU... but it was a very different looking team with out Petro on the sidelines. I’ve not seen a worse looking JHU defense in my life. Not hyperbole.

This team will compete this year. It will be interesting to see how they compete on the national stage. I think they’ll do well.

On a personal note, went to see sparcboxbuck jr play his first two collegiate games last week. He’s listed as A/M but only played middie in the games last week. Got a ton of game time, on the EMO team, and scored in both games. Not a terrible way to start his college career.

This is gonna be a WEIRD year.... so many question marks all over the country and so little time and opportunity to make enough of an impact. This win was so damn important because of that. Road conference wins are precious, and the auto-bid is crucial considering how the we have no real insight on how the selection committee will dole out bids. I'm not sure we are built for that auto-bid... but beating JHU was a MUST to have a shot. Now we have a uber confident Rutgers squad at home. Win our home games, beat the bottom half of the conference, and we should be in a great spot.

The number of kids who came back due to the lost season last year is also stacking a lot of rosters — across the NCAA. There’s going to be some really good ball this year.
