Plus, a priority target for the Buckeyes is set to commit this week.
Ohio State and its various fan accounts have been cryptically tweeting about a handful of commitments over the past several days. While we are still waiting for the official word on who exactly has made their silent pledge to the Buckeyes, Carlos Locklyn was busy looking way into the future to lock up a potential future star.
On Friday, running back Elijah Newman-Hall announced his commitment to Ohio State. A member of the 2028 class, the 6-foot, 200-pound prospect is well ahead of schedule, but clearly has liked what he's seen and heard from Locklyn and the Buckeyes to pull the trigger this early on.
The Florida native holds around a dozen offers, including from the likes of Florida State, Miami, UCF, Wake Forrest and others. Ohio State officially entered his recruitment on May 2, when Locklyn first extended the official offer, and Newman-Hall had an impressive showing last week at one of the Buckeyes’ recruiting camps prior to announcing his commitment.
“With a lot of prayer and thought I’m beyond Excited & Blessed to be announcing my Commitment to The Ohio State University GO BUCKS!” Newman-Hall said via Twitter.
Quickly emerging as the top target for Locklyn in the 2028 class, Newman-Hall is coming off a freshman campaign registering 829 yards on 8.3 yards per carry with 10 touchdowns. A two-way player also earning snaps on defense at Blake High School, the bruiser racked up 28 tackles, eight sacks and three forced fumbles for the Yellow Jackets.
In the era of NIL it will be a battle to keep Newman-Hall committed to the long-haul, but it gives Ohio State an early peer recruiter to help lead the charge as the first member of the 2028 class. The Buckeyes have a pair of 2027 commits in WR Jamier Brown and QB Brady Edmunds, and as of now hold 15 commits in their No. 2-ranked class in the current cycle.
Switching gears to that aforementioned 2026 class, Ohio State got one step closer with a rising wide receiver prospect as three-star Indiana native Jerquaden Guilford listed the Buckeyes among his final four schools.
A 6-foot-2, 190-pound pass-catcher, Guilford is the No. 1 player out of the Hoosier State, coming in as the No. 60 WR in the country per 247Sports’ rankings. Guilford had previously been committed to Penn State since December before de-committing this February, and the Nittany Lions did not make the cut this time around. Indiana, Michigan and Ole Miss are among the final group, alongside Ohio State.
Guilford has already made official visits to his other three finalists, and the Buckeyes will have the last crack at it with an official visit scheduled for this coming weekend, beginning June 20. With four wide receivers already in this class for Brian Hartline, Guilford is reportedly the last uncommitted receiver Ohio State remains actively pursuing. As such, this upcoming visit to Columbus looms large.
