The AP confirmed what Buckeye Nation already knew…The Ohio State University is the best team ever according to a collection of the previous 1,103 polls taking place over 80 years. According to the AP they determined this by a simple process:
“To determine the all-time Top 25, the AP formula counted poll appearances (one point) to mark consistency, No. 1 rankings (two points) to acknowledge elite programs and gave a bonus for AP championships (10 points).”
The result is the Buckeyes receiving a total of 1,112 points. Amazingly, over the 80 year period, the AP found the Buckeyes were not ranked at least once in only three seasons which is pretty cool.
Interestingly, the Buckeyes week three opponent, Oklahoma, was ranked second with 1,055 points. Two other Big Ten teams cracked the top 10; Nebraska at six (901 points) and Michigan at seven (894 points).
Amazingly, the SEC only had two teams in the top ten but undoubtedly their other twelve teams could collectively beat every other team at any time during the 80 year period.
