noting how we turn over the ball at a very high rate and how that might be an issue against illinois is as negative as noting that running naked mid-day in july might lead to a sunburn.I never thought you were pessimistic; just negative.
8 regular season games left. 5 are against teams currently ranked. hold serve against illinois and northwestern x2, beat one of msu/pu/md/uw/iowa, and we're in like flynn. lose 1 of ill/nw/nw but beat 2 of the ranked teams, and we're probably still in despite a losing conference record. pac 12 being horrible and big east being down will help us.
If we lose 1 of ill/nw/nw but beat 2 of the ranked teams, we'll be 10-10 in conference (i.e., we don't have a losing conference record).
Rarely have I seen a coach who can do more with less than Holtmann.fortunately, we have the coach who is better at stretching thin talent.
threads at the top of iu's rivals board:
Let's see, are there enough bad teams left on their schedule that they might be able to eke out enough wins to qualify for a tournament they don't have a shot in hell of winning? Yes? Woohoo! We rule.
Same shit's gonna happen when they expand the football playoff. Just getting in becomes and end in itself.
Well here's how that happens. Now we all know that every high school QB can pass lights out, make every pass known to God, and use touch or zip it to perfection. They can throw short or deep, never too far in front or behind, and to the side away from the DB.I just don't understand how college players can be such poor passers though. Holy crap it is killing me. Have we ever worked on ball fakes? Geezz. Telegraph much guys?
Gene Smith hasn't really bungled very much.
100%. This team isn't talented at all, might be the least talented in 20 years, but damn do they play hard and that's more than enough for me right now after watching Thad's latter teams. It's why all the negativity from some posters and OSU fans about this team is irritating after awhile. This team is talent deficient as all hell in one of the most loaded B1G conferences in awhile but they bring it night in and night out. That's all you can ask for. You're right. Get Holtmann on the phone and have him cancel the rest of the games
For a team with exactly zero expectations of success going into the season, making the tournament is a big deal. This isn't a good team but the culture Holtmann seems to be installing is making it work.
