Ohio State heads to the DMV for latest offer

The Buckeyes have offered another big time offensive lineman prospect from the DC-Maryland-Virginia area.
Ohio State’s football program has seen a busy week in the headlines. With the news of Joe Burrow announcing his intent to transfer, the attrition of the Buckeye roster has seen a fair share of drama. Now, one may see this as negative, but in all reality, this is the fate that’s not out of the ordinary when a program recruits as well as Urban Meyer and Ohio State. Ironically, it may be hard to wrap your thoughts around talented players leaving, but when a talented prospect is still considered to be a possible backup, it’s easy to see where the Buckeyes have an embarrassment of riches.
With this recruiting success, the Buckeyes have proved their formula works—and they continued to dishing out their latest offers to prospects on Thursday.
OSU to the DMV
Even before the Meyer tenure, Ohio State had success recruiting in the Maryland and Virginia area. Especially with Meyer at the helm, the success in the DMV has been second to none. Pulling top prospects seemingly each and every year with guys such as Dwayne Haskins and Chase Young, you can see why the Buckeyes like to branch out to that region each year and pitch why coming to Columbus and playing for Ohio State is better than going anywhere else. Yesterday, Ohio State was back in the DMV with their recruiting hats on and one prospect was given the all so coveted Buckeye offer.
Walter Rouse, a 6-foot-6, 285-pound offensive tackle, took to his Twitter account yesterday evening to announce his latest offer from Ohio State. The 2019 three-star talent holds over 20 scholarship offers and, in the last two weeks, has seen his recruitment take off a little bit as Big Ten schools such as Indiana and Michigan State threw their name into the hat for Walter’s services.

While Ohio State’s offer may now be the “biggest” to his name, you an expect this will certainly put the Buckeye near if not at the top. If Ohio State does in fact become a serious threat to land Rouse, they would be gaining the ninth best player in Washington D.C. and a top 100 offensive line prospect. Time will tell if this offer will become more, but if a visit does come to fruition then it’s easy to see the interest between both parties is real. 2019 is a very important year for offensive line recruiting, considering the Buckeyes are planning on trying to stockpile the top talent they can land. If so, they’ve struck gold before in the DMV and they may be able to yet again.
Committed QB received OSU offer
The ever so popular recruitment of the quarterback position is a topic that is seeing some serious changes over the past few weeks. For more than a while it seemed as if Houston native Grant Gunnell would be the 2019 QB in Ohio State’s class. After what was said to be a successful official visit for Gunnell, a pledge did not come (yet).
To add, the Buckeyes also dished an offer to current Michigan State commit Dwan Mathis just a week ago. Fast forward a week, and Ohio State is at it again offering another committed QB in the 2019 class. This time it’s Ryan Hilinski, a current South Carolina commit.

As the Buckeyes search full-steam ahead for the leader of their 2019 class, the line of un-committed prospect looks to be slimming and the poaching season may be in full effect. Hilinski, a 6-foot-4, 220-pound pro-style QB from Orange, California, is currently ranked as the No. 6 QB in the country and Cali’s 19th best player. If Ohio State is to become a serious player for Ryan, a visit must occur; while that may be easier said than done, never rule out Ryan Day and Urban Meyer when it comes to recruiting.
If this dynamic duo can get Hilinski on campus for at least an official visit, then they have a shot. While Gunnell may still be the favorite of the class, the coaching staff is showing that they’re wasting no time in looking around to find their guy. With the QB room in Columbus becoming a little less full recently, the Buckeyes need to restock the shelves a bit with top talent. With that said, full trust in this staff has to be given with their continued success each year.
Keep them away from TTUN
In the past few articles, it’s been mentioned how well Ohio State has done recruiting in enemy territory. More specifically: recruiting in the state of Michigan. With several prospects holding Ohio State offers in the 2020 class, the Buckeyes have wasted no time in trying to create—and solidify—strong relationships with many around the Detroit area’s top programs.
One receiver prospect who has garnered serious attention from not only Ohio State, but many other top programs, is Rashawn Williams. After seeing Williams play personally for Legacy Football Organizations, Legacy Elite All-State 7v7 team, Rashawn has both the top end speed as well as the ball skills to make for a more than dynamic receiver at the next level.

Yesterday, in an article with Bill Kurelic of Bucknuts, Rashawn took a minute to talk in detail about his interest in Ohio State’s program. With Coach Coombs now in the NFL ranks, the recruiting in Michigan will be done a little differently, but hoping for much of the same success patterns and results. One thing’s for sure: the Buckeyes wouldn’t mind at all adding Williams to the fold.
The fifth best player in Michigan for 2020 and a top 50 receiver, Rashawn would be more than welcomed in Columbus.

• Four-star point guard DJ Carton announced his list of top schools. Listed by the 247sports composite as the top prospect for Iowa in the 2019 class, Carlton included the Buckeyes amongst his six top schools.
• 2020 safety Jordan Morant received an offer from OSU. Morant holds over 10 offers already, and 247sports has Morant graded as a four-star prospect and the No. 3 prospect from New Jersey.
