The three point specialist may be looking for a new home

Ohio State is continuing to recruit prospects for the class of 2016, despite not having an open scholarship. It appears that will now change, as ESPN's Jeff Goodman is reporting that Ohio State's Austin Grandstaff will seek a transfer.

From Goodman's story:

"They have been nothing but great to me," Grandstaff told ESPN on Thursday. "But I just don't see it as the right fit, so I want to look somewhere else. They are great people, and Coach (Thad) Matta is a great coach."

The timing seems to be a little bit of a surprise, as Grandstaff had played in every game this season. Over the year, Grandstaff averaged 11.5 minutes a contest, scoring 4.4 points a game, including 33% from three-point range. The freshman projected to be a long range specialist, and most of his attempts on the year have come from three point range. Given that Thad Matta's rotations tend to shorten once Big Ten play begins, it's possible that minutes would have been harder to find for Grandstaff, given redshirt sophomore Kam Williams and sophomore Keita Bates-Diop are ahead of him on the depth chart. Grandstaff's transfer does remove another three point option from an Ohio State team that isn't shooting especially well anyway.

A four star prospect from the class of 2015, the Rockwall, Texas native picked Ohio State over Texas, Florida, Oklahoma, and other elite programs. There should be plenty of interest in Grandstaff as he selects the next place for him to play college basketball.

Ohio State now has an extra scholarship for the class of 2016, which they may want to use on five star PG Kobi Simmons, who is a major recruiting target for the Buckeyes, or perhaps another recruit.

Best of luck to Grandstaff in his future career.
