The Official Team Shop is honored to offer many of your beloved Ohio State Buckeye Football Games on DVD. These games range from the mid 1930's thru the late 1980's. All games are Coaches Copies. These are films that previous head coaches used to study the teams performance. They are mostly filmed in black and white, with NO sound, and filmed from high up in the press box. The footage is from the plays ONLY, and no footage from before the game, after the games, halftime, or between plays is included. These are NOT television broadcasts.

I saw these this week and order 3 Michigan games. The Snow bowl, Hop Cassady and Vic. It takes 3 weeks (so I was told). Should be very interesting. Where else are you going to get footage like this?

Did you ever wonder what it was like to sit in on a film session with the OSU coaching staff? Are you curious about what they were looking at and how they saw the action?

Did you ever fantasize about maybe watching film with Woody or Early or even Francis Schmidt, then breaking down the games and analyzing what went right and what went wrong for the Buckeyes?

We can't sit you down with Woody or Earle, or even members of the current staff, but you can now get a real feel for what the experience would be like due to a unique set of circumstances at Ohio State.

A recently-discovered treasure-trove of actual coaches game films is now available for purchase on DVD, and they're for sale for a very good reason. Namely, the OSU athletic department does not want those films to be lost, so has undertaken the project of digitizing them and transferring them to DVD. The problem is, there is no money in the budget for the project, so the athletic department has come up with a unique way of funding it. It is making the DVDs available for purchase by the general public and using the proceeds of the sales to finance the ongoing project of preserving the game films.

"If we didn't preserve the archives a lot of this footage would be lost," said Jason Hill who runs the OSU Team Shop and is responsible for the public marketing of the DVDs.

"Most of it is on reels yet, and if we don't get this done soon we're going to lose it. Right now they're all stored in a room in the Woody Hayes. The work is still actually in progress," said Hill.

The films themselves are not highlight reels. They are the game films that the OSU coaching staff used to break down games. As such, they are not glitzy, but they are authentic.

"No voice, no music, no sound," said Hill describing the films.

"Most footage is black and white except for the later games in the 80s.

"It's all quick-moving, fast action. There are no breaks between plays, no breaks for timeouts, no breaks for half time.

"It's almost like highlights. You can watch the games just like Woody and Earl did," said Hill.

The films begin in the 1925 season and run through the 1989 season. Over 1,000 games are available and can be ordered at http://hangonsloopy.com.

About half the games have been digitized at this time, but all of them can be ordered, though if you order one that has not yet been digitized, it will take a bit longer for you to get it.

"Depending on the games that people order, there might be a time lag of up to three weeks before we can deliver, because if we haven't already done that game once, we'll have to transfer the footage from film to DVD, and that causes some delay," said Hill.

"If it has already been done, it's just a matter of burning the disc and shipping it, and that's a lot faster," said Hill.

"Our video department (OSU Athletic Department) is doing the work. Our role is simply to take the order and ship it to the consumer," said Hill.

The early response to the offering has been very positive.

"Sales have been far better than we expected. We've sold a lot of Michigan games, like the 1968 Michigan game, 1970, 1972, the Snow Bowl," said Hill.

"Each one is individually labeled with a CD case and a label with the game. It's very basic," He added.

Hill emphasized that this is not some get-rich money-making scheme by the athletic department. By and large, the proceeds from the DVD sales go to the cost of preserve irreplaceable game film.

"It needed to be done," said Hill.

"Money goes to preserving the films. If we don't do it, we'll loose the footage."
