I believe you forgot the most appropriate response (at least for me)

5. Not if I don't have too.

The wife wants to take the kids every year, going down there and baking on the hot asphalt wading through rednecks is just not my bag of tea.
That's what I was looking for in the choices. I have weaseled my way out of it for a dozen years now and I'll try again this year.

As much as I dislike going to the Ohio State Fair, I really enjoy catching a rural county fair. In my opinion I can get the best without the worst at these. I usually try and catch the Union County Fair each year. My folks live up there and so it is a good time to drag out the parents and get some QT in with them and the grandkids.

Went last year for the first time in 10 years........As I have always told people no matter how bad or screwed up you think your life is.....go to something like the fair and you will have no problem finding somone worse off than you.

"If you ever start feeling like you have the goofiest, craziest, most dysfunctional family in the world, all you have to do is go to a state fair. because five minutes at the fair, you'll be going, 'you know, we're alright. we are dang near royalty."

--Jeff Foxworthy

Typically there are lots of women in spandex who are wider than they are tall at the Ohio State Fair. I imagine SIMV's got the season pass . . .

we went to The Florida State Fair for the last few years... people watching at it's best... I won't let the kids near the rides but they love seeing the horses and other animals.... I never went to the Ohio Fair but the Florida one is really interesting.... it's a whole different class of redneck.

It's that time of year again:

Ohio State Fair opens with deals, discounts

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Organizers believe the struggling economy could mean another year for big attendance at the Ohio State Fair.
Gov. Ted Strickland opens the 156th annual fair Wednesday at the fairgrounds in Columbus. This year's 12-day festival has been advertised as an affordable destination for families looking for an inexpensive "staycation" close to home. The fair has made discount coupons available on its Web site and has several special deals, including $3 admission until 3 p.m. on opening day.
Amid similar economic conditions last year, the fair broke a record for Saturday attendance, and ticket sales were up 11% from 2007.
This year's traditional butter sculpture at the fair depicts three generations of dairy farmers caring for a cow and calf.

Personnally I try to avoid the fair at all costs; however, I know some people really like it and there are promotions/discounts/coupons to save some $$$:

I always thought the State Fair in Ohio was the best. But the Canfield Fair up near Y-town was really something in our younger days. One year was a disaster.... it rained for days before the fair began. Some of the parking areas were really bad and hundreds of cars were abandoned due to the soft ground turning into really deep mud. Tow trucks and wreckers were even getting stuck. It was a mess back. Then they got smart and started shuttle bus routes from the Boardman Plaza when the rains came back again. Did this ever occur at the Ohio State Fair?
