With the former four-star recruit’s decision, the Buckeyes are now officially down to their scholarship limit.

Ohio State will have another roster spot open, with the announcement by cornerback Wayne Davis Jr. that he intends on finishing his academic and athletic careers elsewhere. Davis joins Joe Burrow and Matthew Burrell as Buckeyes on the move — with his transfer, the Buckeyes are now officially at the NCAA scholarship limit of 85.

Davis got to campus in 2016, before red-shirting during his freshman season. He was back on scholarship in 2017, but didn’t see any playing time thanks to a strong rotation of DB’s groomed under Kerry Coombs.

The 6’0, 195-pound native of Norfolk, Vir., will have three years of eligibility remaining wherever he ends up. He is a former OSU Scholar-Athlete, and was Virginia’s Gatorade Player of the Year as well as the state’s Player of the Year for the Associated Press.
