The Buckeyes bounced back from last weekend's sweep at the hands of Maryland with a pair of victories against the Eagles.
The Ohio State baseball team completed a midweek sweep of Morehead State at Bill Davis Stadium in Columbus on Wednesday night with a 7-3 win. A good night at the plate for junior center fielder Troy Montgomery and solid work out of the bullpen by Kyle Michalik helped the Buckeyes improve to 21-11-1 on the season.
Once again, Ohio State used the longball to put runs on the board, as both Montgomery and Nick Sergakis hit two-run home runs to power the offense. For both players, it was their sixth homer of the season, and brought the team's Big Ten-leading total to 36. Montgomery finished his night with three runs scored and three runs batted in.
This was far from a clean game for Ohio State, which committed two errors, had a handful of errant throws that could have been ruled errors, left ten runners on base, and made three outs on the basepaths.
Michalik earned the first win of his collegiate career after tossing 3.2 scoreless innings in relief. The sidewinding sophomore righty yielded just two hits in the effort.
Daulton Mosbarger, the senior transfer from Akron, made his first start on the bump as a Buckeye and was serviceable, though by no means spectacular. The lefty gave up three runs, two earned, on four hits in 4.1 innings of work in a no-decision.
Mosbarger's counterpart for Morehead State, junior Luke Humphreys, had a similar outing, allowing two runs on five hits, while also walking four and hitting two batters in five innings. The right-hander also didn't factor in the decision.
The Eagles' Craig Pearcy took the loss thanks to Sergakis' home run, allowing the two runs in 1.2 innings of work.
Morehead State took the early lead with a pair of runs in the top of the third. A leadoff double by Niko Hulsizer and some shaky defense set the table for RBI singles by Reid Leonard and Will Schneider.
Ohio State came right back to tie the game in the bottom of the frame. Tre Gantt reached base on a liner off the first baseman's glove and was followed by Montgomery's home run, a shot to deep right-center.

The Eagles reclaimed the lead in the top of the fifth when a leadoff walk to Braxton Morris came back to haunt Mosbarger. Morris found himself on third with two outs, and a throwing error by Sergakis at third on a groundball from Schneider off Michalik allowed him to score.
Michalik kept Morehead quiet after that through the seventh, and gave his teammates a chance to take their first lead of the game, which they did in the bottom of the seventh. Montgomery ended up on second to lead off the inning against Pearcy after third baseman Alex Stephens just flat out dropped a pop-up. Three batters later, Sergakis sent an absolute bomb over the wall in left to give Ohio State a 4-3 advantage.

The Buckeyes picked up three insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth thanks to four doubles. Gantt doubled to lead the inning off and scored easily on a Montgomery two-bagger. A double by Ronnie Dawson two batters later brought Montgomery plateward and two batters after that Troy Kuhn doubled Dawson home for a 7-3 lead.
