Rutgers went to the foul line 15 more times than the Buckeyes. That was the difference in the game.

Nice assumption, but nope, not blaming the referees at all. What it shows is the Buckeyes lack of aggressiveness in going to the hoop.

Officiating was not great, but we lost this game and the last 3 on our own. What we're seeing is the chicken little fans come out that are pissed at results and looking for something to blame. To wit, read the next paragraph (not aimed at you at all, just the fans I'm talking about).

Where we are at is where this team actually is. We have a phenomenal freshmen class, followed by basically nothing but mediocre transfer portal players. Okpara is going to be awesome with development, and Brice and Thornton are going to be really good and already are. Once the next year's class comes in, we're going to be really good. Until then, we'll have to take one on the chin and accept that we'll win one or two games in the NIT this year. I know it sucks, but that's what the state of the union right now.

Yeah, the refs were really bad and no doubt they made enough of a difference to get the game into overtime. I mean the shot clock violation call where the ball hit the rim twice before the clock expired and couldn't get it correct on review. Then there were the phantom foul calls on McNeil, one of which was called on a 3 point shot after we had collected the rebound and were dribbling up court (not to mention he didn't touch the guy). Then of course there was Omoyuri shoving someone in the back every time he was going for an offensive rebound, the physical holding/grabbing on our drives, etc., etc. Yeah, I am pretty sure the refs were worth at least 1 point in the game.

That being said, there certainly were some things we could have done better to overcome it.
