We need to look to Mullens...He has his guy pinned and we are not finding him...He works and works and we jack up a 3...Yeah they were falling tonight but what about when they aren't...Think he is finally getting into the rhythm of the game, just needs the ball, and when he gets it and has nothing then he needs to get it back out, but when he is only getting a couple touches a game he feels the need to force...Also they need to look to hoop the ball to him on drives instead of throwing bounce passes and balls at his chest...
Lighty plays much better in and uptempo type game...Wish Matta would let the guys go just a little more...he played great in the open court and when he had room to move...Then he hit the 3's tonight...he makes free throws he puts up 25+...
defensively we seemed to lose lots of open cutters tongiht...Hope it is not an on going problem with teams watching film, but lots of guys out of position tonight...Tought when they had inside and outside game going against us or at least the threat of both...
We need some better play out of the point...Crater seemed to reluctant to want to touch the ball and Simmons seems to miss the open man or not look to turn the corner when it is there...he did on one occasion and got all the way to the rack...
That makes 2-0 with 4 guys in the double digits...I believe this is only the second time...Really thought we would see more of it this year...

Lighty is all right once again, scoring 21 in Buckeyes' romp over Jacksonville, 81-68

Terry Gilliam/Associated PressJacksonville's Marcus Allen finds it's a difficult task to get a shot off against the defensive pressure of Ohio State's Evan Turner, center, and B.J. Mullens during the first half of the Buckeyes' victory Wednesday night in Columbus.
COLUMBUS -- David Lighty said Tuesday he wasn't worried about his offense. After Wednesday night, maybe no one else needs to worry for a while either. Lighty tied his career high with 21 points as he led No. 17 Ohio State to a 81-68 victory over Jacksonville, the junior captain reintroducing himself as an offensive threat. The only other 20-point game of his career was a 21-point outing in last season's opener against Wisconsin-Green Bay.
Entering the game, Lighty was making 40 percent of his shots, 19 percent of his 3-pointers and 48 percent of his free throws.
Wednesday, Lighty made seven of his eight shots from the field, two of his three 3-pointers and five of seven from the line.
"My mom always told me practice makes perfect," the Villa Angela-St. Joseph grad said Tuesday while discussing his offensive struggles. "Just keep practicing and they're going to start falling for me."
Averaging 7.8 points, Lighty beat that 13 minutes into the game and the Buckeyes (7-0) held on as their scoring slowed in the second half. After scoring 56 points in the first 23 minutes of the game and taking a 19-point lead, the Buckeyes lost their way at times, but their 81 points were still a season's best.
Jacksonville (2-6), which lost by only three to Georgia Tech and two to Florida State earlier this season, pulled within 69-64 with five minutes to play before Jon Diebler stretched Ohio State's lead with his third 3-pointer of the game.
Behind Lighty, Ohio State offered balanced scoring, with Evan Turner putting up 17 points, Diebler 14 and Jeremie Simmons 10.

Men's basketball: Buckeyes rely on offense, for a change

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH
James D. DeCamp Dispatch
Ohio State's David Lighty, making his way around Jacksonville's Tevin Galvin, scored 21.
The defense that is one of the best in NCAA Division I wasn't so hot last night. Fortunately for the Ohio State men's basketball team, the offense was.
David Lighty tied his career high with 21 points, and his aggressive play ignited an offense that set season highs in points and field-goal percentage in an 81-68 victory over Jacksonville in Value City Arena.
Evan Turner added 17 points and Jon Diebler 14 for the 17th-ranked Buckeyes (7-0), whose 10 three-point baskets also were a season high. Ohio State shot 64.3 percent from the field and 58.8 percent outside the arc.
"In the paper last game you guys said the defense helped us," Turner said. "Well, tonight our offense helped our bad defense.
"I mean, scoring is always nice -- that's what we attempt to do. But at the same time, one of these days we're going to have to put it all together and have a good defensive and offensive game."
The win extended the Buckeyes' winning streak in a Division I-best 12 games. The streak comprises the final five games of last season, when the Buckeyes won the National Invitation Tournament, and the first seven this season.
Lehmon Colbert led Jacksonville (2-6) with 14 points. The Dolphins' 68 points equaled the season high against the Buckeyes, and their 49.1 percent shooting also was a high.

OSU Offense Comes to Life in 81-68 Win over Jacksonville
By John Porentas Don't throw away that "Ohio State wins with defense" theory yet, but the Buckeyes showed against Jacksonville that there's some potential on offense too.No. 16/17 Ohio State (7-0) lit it up from the field, shooting 64.3 percent overall and 58.8 percent from three point range in handing Jacksonville (2-6) an 81-68 defeat at Value City Arena. The main lighter-upper against the Dolphins was forward David Lighty who scored a game high 21 points on seven of eight shooting from the field that included two of three from three point range. He also hit five of seven free throws, grabbed seven rebounds, got three steals and tied for the game-high for assists with four. Overall it was the kind of offensive show the Buckeyes have not managed until now this season, and it didn't have a whole lot to do with weak defense. The Buckeyes were simply good on offense. "It was very uncharacteristic of our defense, full court and half court," said Jacksonville Head Coach Cliff Warren. "We haven't allowed anybody to shoot that well in several years, but give them credit, they made open shots."

mullens is also bring the ball down, way down, sometimes to his waist. keep it in the triangle big man. agree on forcing it. positioning and footwork look better though. mullens excites me. thad has to be drooling... i agree on the passes to him. thads teams tend to throw poor entry passes for whatever reason. you know im a huge fan of post, entry, kick out, repost, entry (easy basket). im going to wonder what kind of shape hes in out loud. at this point does he understand what it takes to play high minutes at this level
Lighty plays much better in and uptempo type game...Wish Matta would let the guys go just a little more...he played great in the open court and when he had room to move...Then he hit the 3's tonight...he makes free throws he puts up 25+...
lighty beneifited from a smaller team, no one on that floor was as physical as ldavid. that wont be the case in big ten play. i still think david is not a primary scoring option. he needs to get his points primarily outside of offensive sets. transition, rebounding, getting to the rim of the pass with 1-2 dribbles. he can be highly effective doing this. he also needs to continue his strong defensive presence.
defensively we seemed to lose lots of open cutters tongiht...Hope it is not an on going problem with teams watching film, but lots of guys out of position tonight...Tought when they had inside and outside game going against us or at least the threat of both...
gut cut killed us.

did crater look out of shape to anyone else? he played about 3 mins and lost his energy. conditioning issue id guess. jsu realized they could pressure simmons and create turnover. trust me that if they catch on izzo, painter and company will catch on, keep in mind you have to play most b10 teams twice. theyll have us scouted up ten times better than anyone in the preseason.
That makes 2-0 with 4 guys in the double digits...I believe this is only the second time...Really thought we would see more of it this year...
this team hasnt lost a game all year when theyve scored more points than the other team.
