Ohio State 79, Butler 69 (Final)

i agree with oilerbuck. i understand we plugged new people in and things have changed a little but its no excuse to be contested by that kind of team regardless of the time of season. IMO they only had one true threat and that was their one good long range guy(forget his name), the rest of the game dials should have dominated down low with a huge size advantage and we definitely had the quicker team which surprised me we didnt get into more of a transition type of game.

Butler, again, has a lot of talent. You're probably referring to Brandon Crone, who lit us up for 27, but A.J. Graves, if you'd read the game preview, was the Horizon League's freshman of the year last season, averaging 11 ppg. Bruce Horan and Avery Sheets are both solid shooters as well, so to suggest that Butler is a crap team is ludicrous.

In regards to the "rest of the game" in which Dials "should have dominated," ... did you watch? He had 24 points and seven boards on 9 of 16 shooting. What do you want? Butler had a great help defense set up to stifle him, and he put forth a great effort despite having a shower of slapping hands around him at all times.

I was pleased by the game, ultimately. We rebounded well, we were 22 of 27 from the line, we flat out shut them down in the first half, and were it not for Graves being a total dead-eye, OT would never have happened. I'm glad it did happen, though, because OT was a sign of disaster last season, and we absolutely dominated in the final five minutes last night. I'm not worried about this team, or any individual players. Clearly I'm in the minority.

I totally agree here.

Just because the team is a mid-major does not mean they are not good. Lets also remember that this team had alot of experience to come into our house and play us tough. THere was no crowd advantage b/c it was a tuesday nite against a mid-major. Also this was Butlers 4th game and we were only playing our 2nd. Also Butler and Twig's first game.

We will be ok.

Also, at this point in the season, the wins are really what matter. Well, obviously they matter all season. But, my point is, losing games before the Big 10 season starts just makes the 20 win total that much harder and NCAA briths that much more unlikely.

Bottom line, 2-0. Keep piling up the wins. We'll worry about quality of play in February and March.

the horan guy was the guy i thought looked good. dials sure didnt look like he was performing as well as it indicates. he missed some easy shots and turned the ball over pretty carelessly on more than one occasion. im definitely not worried about our team but they better pick it up because that type of performance isnt going to even compete with iowa/msu/illinois later on.

Well neither would MSU performance against Hawaii competet against us. So it is a double edge sword I guess.

We didnt play all that well, but we pulled it out and there were a ton of positives for us to take away from this game. keep in mind 3 guys that will factor a huge part into our scoring put up 4 pts between them. Harris, Mayes, SYL.

The fact is that this year we have more players who can take the lead and score. In the past we would only have the same 3 guys put up the numbers. So far, this year we have had muliple guys step in and make a difference. I think this makes us an even more dangerous team
